CAT 2016 Admission Process

Please note that each IIM shortlists candidates for second stage of selection which may be independent of each other. The CAT exam 2016 admission process may include Written Ability Test (WAT), Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interviews (PI). Performance in CAT 2016 examination is an important component in the CAT admission process. The IIM admission criteria may include factors like previous academic performance of the candidates, relevant work experience and other similar inputs in short listing and ranking of candidates at various stages of the CAT admission process. Eligibility for CAT Exam 2016

The candidate must be a graduate with 50% marks or equivalent CGPA (45% in case of SC/ST/DA/PWD) or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the ministry of HRD, Government of India. ​ Candidates appearing for the final year of bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed degree requirements and are awaiting results can also apply for the Common Admission Test (CAT). If selected, such candidates will be allowed to join the program provisionally, only if he/she submits a certificate latest by June 30, 2015 from the Principal/Registrar of his/her College/Institute (issued on or before June 30, 2015) stating that the candidate has completed all the requirements for obtaining the bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification on the date of the issue of the certificate. ​ IIMs may verify eligibility for CAT exam at various stages of the selection process, the details of which are provided at the official website

CAT 2016 Exam Details

Common Admission Test (CAT) is an all-India computer based selection test conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) as an entrance exam for admission to their business administration programs. The CAT exam is considered as a prior condition for admission into more than 100 management institutes across the country which includes the reputed institutions like Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), S.P. Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR), Management Development Institute (Gurgaon), International Management Institute (IMI), National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE), Institute of Management Technology (IMT), Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (JBIMS) and many others. CAT Exam Dates are generally declared in the month of August every year. This exam is conducted every year by IIMs’ on rotational basis. The CAT score is used separately by each institute along with other parameters i.e. academic performance, work experience, written assessment, group discussion and interview performance, etc. to select candidates. The weightage assigned to CAT score may differ for each institute. Candidates are advised to read the weightage, process and breakup for each institute on its respective website. ​

CAT Exam 2016 Syllabus

​ The syllabus for CAT exam is divided into three sections. Problems generally come from various topics like Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry and Commercial Mathematics (Word Problems). The questions are largely based on application of mathematics to solve real-time problems. ​ The Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning for Common Admission Test (CAT) comprises of questions which are based on the given data. The data given might be in the form of graphs, charts, tables and paragraphs. Data Interpretation questions for CAT exam test the candidate's understanding of the data and the ability to solve problems accurately. Logical Reasoning questions check the candidate's ability to analyze and evaluate problems. ​ The Verbal Ability section comprises of questions on comprehension and usage of standard English grammar. Verbal Logic questions test the candidate's knowledge of arranging paragraphs in a logical order, determining the type of statements, completing the paragraphs in an appropriate way. ​ It has to be noted that the Common Admission Test (CAT) does not predefine any specific chapters or content upon which questions can occur. However, any intricate term would be well defined, if the problem requires such knowledge. ​

Eligibility for CAT exam verification
