JEE Mains 2019 Exam Information

JEE Mains 2019 will be conducted by National Testing Agency. The NTA will be conducting JEE Mains for Engineering and Architecture papers twice in 2019 – in January and also in April. The B.Tech. [Paper I] paper will be conducted from the 6th of January to the 20th of January(first attempt)/April(Second attempt)  while the B.Arch. [Paper II] will be conducted on 8th of January (in two shifts).

The national level engineering college entrance exam will be conducted biannually (twice a year) – i.e., in January and April in online mode as Computer-based Examination. Candidates have the option of attempting the in either session or in both as well. JEE Mains Score and Ranking determine admissions to various courses in participating NITs, IIITs, and other CFTIs though Central Seat Allocation Board. Those qualifying the Mains can appear for JEE Advanced exam which determines admissions to 23 IITs based on All India Ranking.

January Session of JEE Main 2019

The NTA has released the final exam centre, date and shift (slot) allocation for the JEE Main 2019 (January session). It can be accessed by all successfully registered candidates by logging on to the Official NTA website – nta.ac.in. You will need to enter the NTA Registration ID/Number and Password t0 access the examination timing/venue details.

JEE Mains Admit Card are expected to be released as per schedule on the 17th of December 2018. They will be available for download on the JEE Main or NTA Page on logging in.

JEE Mains 2019 Important Dates

From 2019, the NTA will be conducting the JEE Mains paper in two sessions, January and April. Candidates can appear for either or both the attempts. The first attempt is scheduled from 6th January to 20th January 2019. The second attempt will take place between 6th April to 20th April 2019. You can find information about schedule, status and important dates for each attempt in the sections below.

January Session

The January attempt is scheduled for 6th to 20th January for the Paper I (B.Tech./B.E.) and will be conducted on the 8th of January for the Paper II (B.Arch.). The public notice for JEE (Main) Examination City, Date and Shift has been declared on NTA website. Candidates can access this using Application Number for JEE Main and Password. Admit Card for Jan session will be available for online download from 17th December 2018.

JEE Mains Exam Pattern

JEE Mains 2019 will be conducted for admission to UG courses for Engineering and Architecture. The Paper I (B.E./B.Tech.) and the Paper II (B.Arch) will have different components being tested. The exam is of 3 hours duration and will be conducted in English, Hindi as well as other regional languages.

Marking Scheme

  • Each question carries 4 marks
  • For every incorrect attempt, 1/4 marks

  • The Paper I (B. E. /B. Tech.) of JEE Main will also be counted as an eligibility test for the JEE (Advanced). Depending on the marks and ranks secured the candidate will be eligible to appear for JEE Advanced for admission to programs offered by the IITs.
  • Admissions to IITs will be based only on category-wise All India Rank (AIR) in JEE (Advanced), subject to conditions as defined in JEE Advanced 2019 website (not active yet).

Syllabus for Paper I [B.Tech/B.E.]

The Paper-I of JEE Mains has 3 subjects under it – Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Each subject has equal weightage and the paper is totally for 360 marks. The NTA has notified of the syllabus under each section for JEE Mains 2019 in the official information bulletin.

Physics section will have 2 sections – Section A and Section B. Section A will consist of theory portion (80% weightage) and Section B will consist of questions based to test Experimental skills (20% weightage).

Syllabus for JEE Mains Paper II (B.Arch./B.Planning)

Aptitude Test Syllabus 

The NTA has given limited syllabus details for Paper II. The details as mentioned in the Syllabus section of NTA Information bulletin is given below:

Part I

  • Awareness of persons, Places, Buildings and Materials.
  • Objects and Textures related to Architecture and build-environment.
  • Visualising three-dimensional objects from two-dimensional drawings.
  • Visualising. different sides of three-dimensional objects.
  • Analytical Reasoning Mental Ability (Visual, Numerical and Verbal).

Part II

  • 3-dimensional perception: Understanding and appreciation of scale and proportion of objects, building forms and elements, colour texture, harmony and contrast.
  • Design and drawing of geometrical or abstract shapes and patterns in pencil.
  • Transformation of forms both 2 D and 3 D union, subtraction, rotation, development of surfaces and volumes
  • Generation of Plan, elevations and 3 D views of objects.
  • Creating two dimensional and three dimensional compositions using given shapes and forms.

Sketching of scenes and activities from memory of urban-scape (public space, market, festivals, street scenes, monuments, recreational spaces, etc.), landscape (river fronts, jungles, trees, plants, etc.) and rural life.

JEE Mains Admit Card

NTA is scheduled to release JEE Mains Admit Card 2019 for January session available for download on 17th of December 2019. The NTA will make JEE Main Admit Card 2019 available in online mode only. Admit Card will contain details like name, exam centre and address, admit card number, roll number and application number, timing of examination and paper being appeared for.

To download JEE Main 2019 admit card candidates will need to log-in to their account using their application number, password and security pin. On viewing admit card, verify all details before downloading it. Make sure to download and print multiple copies as you must carry Admit Card to the Exam venue on the examination day – without Admit Card of JEE Mains, candidates will not be allowed to enter the examination hall. Along with the admit card, candidate will be required to carry a valid photo Identity proof to the exam centre.

Step-by-Step JEE Mains Admit Card Download

  1. Visit the NTA Official Website i.e. www.nta.ac.in. This is the only official source for Admit Card download.
  2. Click on the icon or Announcement – ‘Download Admit Card of JEE (Main) 2019 January Session’
  3. Enter Application number, Password and confirm the security pin in the provided blanks
  4. This will lead you to Admit Card pdf. Click on ‘Download Your Admit Card’ and save.
  5. After verifying that all mentioned details are correct, print at least 2 copies for the exam date.
  6. One passport size photograph (to be pasted on admit card/attendance sheet) will be required to be carried along. This should match the photograph uploaded during registration.
  7. PwD certificate in the prescribed format if applicable.

JEE Mains 2019 Result

Result For January Session to be declared on January 31, 2019

NTA will release the JEE Mains 2019 January session result online on the official NTA website i.e. nta.ac.in as well as on the JEE Mains website jeemain.nic.in. Normalization of marks will be done to maintain equality between candidates appearing in separate shifts.

The January result will not be treated as the final qualification as combined Merit List for January and April session will be released on 30th April. This list will contain the AIR rankings and candidate score after normalization. Normalization procedure based on percentile score will be used for preparing Merit List.

The Mains result will determine eligibility to appear for JEE Advanced Exam (for admission to IITs). In case a candidate appears for both January and April attempts, the best score out of the two attempts will be considered while preparing Final Merit List.

How to check JEE Main Result 2019?

  • Visit the JEE Mains website i.e jeemain.nic.in
  • Enter valid log-in credentials
  • This will redirect to the JEE Main result 2019 window.
  • You can check your normalized score in each section as well as total score.

JEE Mains Merit List 2019 will include All India Rank of the candidate along with the All India [Category] Rank. This will be available on or post 30th April 2019. The following details will be mentioned on the final JEE Mains 2019 Rank Card issued:

  • All India Rank in JEE
  • National Rank
  • Category Rank
  • Total (normalised) Marks in JEE Main
  • Marks obtained in each paper
  • Qualifying Status for JEE Advanced

JEE Answer Key

After the JEE Mains 2019 exam, the NTA will release the JEE Main 2019 answer key (shift-wise) with the recorded responses of MCQs of Paper-1 and Paper-2 in PDF format. Hence, candidate will be able to estimate the score obtained by him/her in preparation for the next attempt or to analyse performance.

In case of errors in the Official Answer Keys, candidates can fill the online application form and pay processing fees of Rs.1000 per question for clarification/revision if applicable. Post this process, the final answer key will be prepared on the basis of which Result List will be prepared.
