CAT 2017 Admission Process

Please note that each IIM shortlists candidates for second stage of selection which may be independent of each other. The CAT exam 2017 admission process may include Written Ability Test (WAT), Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interviews (PI). Performance in CAT 2017 examination is an important component in the CAT admission process. The IIM admission criteria may include factors like previous academic performance of the candidates, relevant work experience and other similar inputs in short listing and ranking of candidates at various stages of the CAT admission process. The processes, academic cut-offs and the weights allocated to the evaluation parameters may vary across IIMs. For more information, refer the admissions policies of IIMs from their respective websites. CAT 2017 Exam Fees A B General and NC-OBC Candidates Rs.1800 SC/ST/PWD Rs.900 Eligibility for CAT exam verification The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s Degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA. Candidates appearing for the final year of Bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed degree requirements and are awaiting results can also apply. However, it may be noted that such candidates, if selected, will be allowed to join the programme provisionally, only if they submit a certificate from the Principal / Registrar of their University/institution (issued on or before the date as stipulated by the respective IIM) stating that they have completed all the requirements for obtaining the Bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification on the date of the issue of the certificate. Completed professional degree (CA/CS/ICWA) with required percentage*. Should be in the final year of Bachelor’s degree with required percentage*. SC / ST / PWD candidates should have minimum 45%. For General and NC-OBC candidates, minimum is 50%. Candidates must declare and maintain a valid and unique email account and a phone number throughout the selection process. For Reservations: As per the legal requirements, 15% of the seats are reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC) and 7.5% for Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates. 27% of seats are reserved for Other Backward Classes candidates belonging to the “non-creamy” layer (NC-OBC). 5% seats are reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwD). “Person with benchmark disability”  Specified disability” means the disabilities as specified in the Schedule of the RPwD Act 2016. CAT 2017 Exam Details

Common Admission Test (CAT) is an all-India computer based selection test conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) as an entrance exam for admission to their business administration programs. The CAT exam is considered as a prior condition for admission into more than 100 management institutes across the country which includes the reputed institutions like Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), S.P. Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR), Management Development Institute (Gurgaon), International Management Institute (IMI), National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE), Institute of Management Technology (IMT), Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (JBIMS) and many others. CAT Exam Dates are generally declared in the month of August every year. This exam is conducted every year by IIMs’ on rotational basis. The CAT score is used separately by each institute along with other parameters i.e. academic performance, work experience, written assessment, group discussion and interview performance, etc. to select candidates. The weightage assigned to CAT score may differ for each institute. Candidates are advised to read the weightage, process and breakup for each institute on its respective website. ​

CAT Exam 2017 Syllabus

​ The syllabus for CAT exam is divided into three sections.
