TISSNET 2019 Exam Information

The schedule for the Tata Institute of Social Sciences National Entrance Test (TISSNET 2019) have now been released. TISSNET 2019 will take place on January 19, 2019 from 2pm to 3.40pm. The application form for the same will be released on 22nd October, 2018.

The exam is conducted for admission to all Masters programmes offered by TISS at TISS Mumbai, Tuljapur, Hyderabad, Guwahati, IMHST Chennai, MHAT Calicut and G-SET Ranchi. TISSNET is conducted annually to determine admissions to more than 50 Postgraduate (Masters Degree) programs offered by Tata Institute of Social Sciences(TISS). These include degrees such as M.A. /M.Sc./ M.P.H./M.H.A.

TISS does not offer an MBA program but instead is famous for its flagship course which is, MA in Human Resources Management and Labour Relations (HRM & LR). This degree is equivalent to an MBA-HR degree and highly sought after. Around 40,000 candidates appear for TISSNET each year, most of whom wish for admission to the HRM&LR course.

TISSNET 2019 Important Dates

Registrations for TISSNET 2019 begin on 22nd October and will be concluded by 10th December. If applying by post, candidates must ensure the forms reach TISS Office by 12th December at the latest.

TISSNET 2019 Eligibility Criteria

I. Education

a) Bachelor’s degree (minimum of three years duration) or equivalent 

b) At the time of applying, candidates in a 3-year Bachelors degree programme should have passed all subjects from 1st to 4th semesters; while candidates studying in a 4-year Bachelors degree programme should have passed in all subjects from 1st to 6th semester. Candidates with backlogs may not apply. 

c) Only the candidates who will be able to complete all the requirements of their final year Bachelor’s Degree examinations by the first week of June 2019 are eligible to apply to all the programme.

II. Age

There is no age limit for enrolling for the TISSNET exam.

How to Apply for TISSNET 2019?

TISS Application Dates

Candidates can apply for TISSNET 2019 from 22nd October 2018 onwards.

Applications can be submitted either online or in offline mode depending on Internet and Telecommunication facilities available. This means that regular candidates MUST apply ONLINE.

However, if a candidate is applying from a remote area and if the above mentioned facilities are not available, they may REQUEST A FORM from TISS.

How can I request an Application Form from TISS?

This can be done by sending a request for a printed form by Speed Post with the application fees to the Assistant Registrar (Academic), Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Deonar Mumbai, 400088.

How many TISS Programmes can I apply for?

Candidates can apply for a maximum of 3 TISS programs across 2 different campuses of TISS. Please note that all 3 programmes must be applied to using the same application. Multiple application forms are not permitted.

TISSNET 2019 Exam Pattern

The TISS Selection process has 2 stages – TISSNET which is followed by the Pre-Written Test and Interview.


The format of the Pre-Written Test is as follows:

  • Every correct answer awards 1 mark to the candidate.

Note: There is NO NEGATIVE MARKING in TISSNET 2019 for any of the programmes, including the HRM course.

2] Pre-Written Test/Interview

Candidates that are shortlisted after TISSNET will be called for Pre-Written Test and Personal Interview.

For Pre-Written Test, candidates will be given two sections to attempt.

  • Section one will involve essay writing on a given theme related to contemporary socio-political, economic, cultural and political significance must contain less than 1000 words.
  • Section two will comprise of questions related to given case study. 

This will be followed by a Personal Interview.

TISSNET 2019 Admit Card

The TISSNET Admit Card 2019 will be available from 22nd of December to 6th January, 2018. It will be accessible at the official website of TISS – tiss.edu. An email will also be sent to registered candidates about the availability of the Admit card for download at their registered email id.

Step-by-step Admit Card Download:

  1. Upon clicking the ‘Download Admit Card’ link, you will be required to enter either your password or your DoB in dd-mm-yy format to access the admit card.
  2. In case you have not received it by the first week of January 2019, you can request a duplicate admit card.
  3. The TISSNET Admit Card will contain details such as candidate name, date of birth and photo. Verify all the details to ensure sure they are correct and match your ID proof that you intend to provide at the time of the exam.
  4. In case of any discrepancy, you can call the TISS Helpline: 022 – 2552 5252 OR you can register a complaint by sending an email to pgadmission@tiss.edu.
  5. On the TISSNET 2019 exam date, carry a valid photo identity along with your admit card to the exam venue. This should be a government ID.

TISSNET 2019 Result

TISS Admission process will have two-stage result. First, the TISSNET result will be declared to determine the candidates who have qualified for the Pre-Written Test/PI. After the Pre-Written Test/PI, the final merit list will determine which candidates have gained admission to the courses.

To qualify TISSNET, there is a minimum 35% marks requirement. However, selection beyond this 35% qualifier is done on the basis of merit list.

  • The TISSNET Result will be declared in the last week of January 2019 at the official website i.e. tiss.edu.
  • TISS will release the result in scorecard format. 
  • The final merit list of selected candidates will be displayed in last week of April 2019.


The TISS cutoff varies for every course, however here is the TISSNET MA HR&LRM 2018 Course:
