The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) is a method implemented by the MHRD (Ministry of Human Resource Development) in order to rank the institutions of higher education in India. It was accepted by the MHRD and initiated on September 29, 2015, by the Minister of Human Resource Development. There are separate rankings provided for the various types of institutions on the basis of their areas of operations such as colleges & universities, management institutions, engineering institutions, architecture institutions, and pharmacy institutions.
