About College

The Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta (IIMCAL) is a government-funded business school located in Joka, Kolkata. It is considered to be one of the most elite business schools in Asia. It was established in November 1961 by Professor George Robbins of the University of California as part of Prime Minister Nehru’s Five Year Plans. It was the first Indian Institute of Management to be established and falls among the topmost “ABC” IIMs.

Originally established as a society, IIM-C was not legally allowed to hand out degrees till the implementation of the Indian Institutes of Management Act 2017. The institute offers a two-year full-time Post-Graduate Diploma in Management (which is equivalent to an MBA), Fellow Program in Management (equivalent to a PhD), and Executive Post Graduate Diploma in Management (equivalent to an executive MBA), among other courses.

Currently, IIM Calcutta is led by Chairman, Professor Shrikrishna Kulkarni and Director, Anju Seth. The college counts amongst its faculty members eminent educators such as Prof. Ashok Banerjee who teaches Finance, Prof. Rahul Mukherjee formerly of the Indian Statistical Institute teaches Statistics and Prof. Leena Chatterjee who is a mine of knowledge when it comes to the students’ all-around soft skill development.

IIM-C is the only management school in India and one of the 86 institutes in the world with triple accreditation. The school was accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), the European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) and the Association of MBAs (AMBA). IIM-C is also the only Indian management college to be a member of the Global Alliance in Management Education (CEMS).

IIM Calcutta Course and Fee Structure

IIM Calcutta was formed as a society rather than as a school of higher education and as a consequence, their PG Diplomas were not considered to be of the same value as an MBA degree. However, since the implementation of the Indian Institutes of Management Act 2017 in early 2018, the programmes have all gained degree status. The business school offers four main post-graduate programmes, a fellowship research course, a student exchange programme and various short term diploma programmes.

IIM Calcutta Course highlights:

  • IIM-C offers two Post-Graduate Diploma courses - Post-Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) and Post Graduate Diploma in Business Analytics (PGDBA).
  • It offers two Executive Post-Graduate Programmes - Post Graduate Programme for Executives (PGPEX) and Post Graduate Programme for Executives for Visionary Leadership in Manufacturing (PGPEX-VLM).
  • It also offers one Fellowship (Doctoral) Programme with nine specialisations, namely Economics, Information Sciences, Marketing, Organisational Behaviour, HR Management, Strategic Management, Finance and Control, Public Policy Management and Operation Management.
