IIM Calcutta campus like stepping into a different world, an experience that pushes you beyond your usual comfort zone, exposing you to a variety of situations. Adhering to certain strict rules is part of this experience. Getting to know a diverse group of students from various backgrounds in such close quarters is another aspect. At IIM Calcutta, the goal is to ensure your comfort within this distinct environment.

Among the three main hostels—Old Hostel, White Hostel, and New Hostel—there are ample opportunities for interaction and building relationships. The Old Hostel is co-ed, with separate wings for girls, while the White Hostel and New Hostel are exclusively for male students. All hostels are well-equipped with modern facilities. The newest hostel, nearing completion, will be operational in the upcoming session. The facilities in the newest hostel adhere to international standards. Spacious rooms with French windows opening onto private balconies provide a sense of luxury and comfort upon entry. The combination of state-of-the-art architectural design, advanced technology, and luxurious materials results in a fantastic new hostel for IIM Calcutta students.

In addition to their solid infrastructure, all the hostels offer ample opportunities for socialising and fostering connections. Common rooms, game facilities, and sports courts are available in each hostel, providing students with spaces to unwind and relax after busy days. The freedom of movement allows constant interaction among students, enabling newcomers to acquaint themselves with seniors, gain insights from their experiences, utilise their knowledge, and establish enduring relationships. It’s a common sight to see study groups and project teams working late into the night in the hostel common areas. These interactions become particularly significant in a student’s life during placement seasons and examinations.

Every hostel possesses its unique atmosphere and customs. Inter-hostel sports competitions showcase the distinctive cultures of each hostel in their brightest light. Throughout the year, festivals are celebrated within the hostels, whether through hosting rituals and ceremonies in the hostel courtyard, serving delectable feasts in the mess, or engaging in communal activities such as setting off fireworks and flying kites on the hostel rooftop. A common scene during the year involves second-year students establishing kiosks in the hostel to sell various items as part of their marketing projects, with first-year students relishing delicious golgappas or purchasing handmade crafts crafted by underprivileged children.

Hostel life at IIMC is brimming with vibrancy, offering an opportunity to relax, unwind, and continuously explore oneself through interactions with peers and active participation in cultural, sports, and community activities.
