What is XAT?

The Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) is a national-level MBA entrance exam conducted by XLRI Jamshedpur on behalf of the Xavier Association of Management Institutes (XAMI). It is one of India’s oldest and most prestigious management entrance examinations and is accepted by 250+ MBA and PGDM colleges across the country, including XLRI and several leading B-schools.

XAT evaluates candidates on key management aptitude skills such as Decision Making, Verbal & Logical Ability, Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation, and General Knowledge. The Decision Making section is unique to XAT and distinguishes it from other MBA entrance exams like CAT.

For the 2027 admission cycle, XAT 2027 will be conducted on Sunday, January 3, 2027, and the online registration process began on July 15, 2026. Candidates can submit their application forms through the official XAT website until December 6, 2026.

Eligibility criteria for XAT 2027

Candidates must satisfy the eligibility requirements prescribed by XLRI Jamshedpur to appear for XAT 2027. Before filling out the application form, applicants should ensure they meet the educational qualification and other criteria.

Minimum Marks No minimum percentage of marks is required to appear for XAT 2027.
Age Limit There is no upper or lower age limit for appearing in XAT 2027.

Important Eligibility Points

  • Candidates from any academic stream (Engineering, Commerce, Science, Arts, Management, etc.) are eligible to apply.
  • A bachelor’s degree must be obtained from a recognized university or institution.
  • Final-year students should enter their aggregate marks up to the last completed semester/year while filling out the application form.
  • Admission to XLRI and other participating institutes is subject to verification of educational qualifications during the admission process.

Work Experience Requirement

You do not need work experience to apply for XAT 2027. Both fresh graduates and working professionals are eligible to appear for the exam.

However, some MBA/PGDM colleges, including XLRI Jamshedpur, may consider your work experience during the final admission process.

For XLRI admissions:

  • Only full-time work experience after completing your graduation is considered.
  • Internships, articleships, apprenticeships, part-time jobs, or any work experience before graduation are not counted as valid work experience.

Eligibility for XLRI Programmes

Qualifying XAT 2027 does not guarantee admission to XLRI or any other XAT-accepting college.

To be considered for admission, you must:

  • Apply separately for the XLRI programme(s) of your choice while filling out the XAT application form.
  • Meet the eligibility criteria and selection requirements of the respective institute.
  • Clear the further admission rounds, such as the Group Discussion (GD), Personal Interview (PI), Written Ability Test (WAT) or any other selection process conducted by the institute (if applicable).

What Happens After the XAT 2027 Result?
