Should I take the GMAT exam?

If you’re looking for a B-School or MBA program, the GMAT exam could help you get into one of over 5000 programs offered by 1,900+ schools in 82 countries. The GMAT has a strong emphasis on critical thinking and reasoning skills, which are two essential skills for MBA programs.

Important factors to consider are –

1.1 Are you interested in pursuing an MBA or a master’s degree in a different field?

The GMAT is clearly more suited to MBA admissions than the GRE, which is used for certain MBA admissions but also for most other graduate programs (eg. J.D., M.S., etc.). In fact, GMAT scores are used to make the majority of MBA admission decisions (both domestically and globally).

1.2  When do you plan to apply to your B-School(s) of choice

The GMAT score is valid for a period of five years. This implies that if you think you have more time to spend to prepare now than you have later, you can take the exam now and apply with that score for up to a five-year period. If your score isn’t up to par, you can retake the exam (up to a total of 8 times throughout your lifetime).

iii) Do the colleges you are applying to accept GMAT?

Although GMAT results are accepted by most MBA programs, certain MBA programs  in India have their own entrance exam or solely accept CAT scores to maintain uniformity.   It’s advisable to double-check which test marks are allowed if you’re applying within India.

Furthermore, several universities abroad allow both the GRE and the GMAT, which is where you can use it to your advantage. Candidates with higher verbal ability abilities may perform better on the GRE, whereas the GMAT is usually more quant-intensive. Examine a few sample papers from each and make your decision based on your findings.

GMAT Exam Date

Throughout the year, the GMAT exam is available at chosen test centers in 18 states. To ensure you get the center and time of your choice, you should schedule your exam at least 45-60 days in advance.

This will also give you enough time to study for the test. Depending on whether they are applying for a fall or spring semester, test takers should consider college application deadlines. Every university has a different deadline for submitting scores, so find out when the deadline is and work backwards to plan your test.

There are two more crucial aspects to consider:

1] In a 12-month period, you can only take the GMAT five times.

2] There must be a 16-day gap between each GMAT attempt.

By entering a location, you can check availability dates at centres near you using the link below. To ensure that the centres closest to you appear, try to be as descriptive as possible about your location.

GMAT 2022 Eligibility Criteria

The Graduate Business Entrance Test, or GMAT, is a test that is used to get admission to various management degrees. The Graduate Management Admission Council, or GMAC, administers the GMAT.

The exam is required for admission to the numerous business schools throughout the world that offer these management programmes. GMAT is a computer-based exam. It assesses a candidate’s analytical thinking and writing abilities, as well as their verbal, or speaking, quantitative, and reading abilities.

The thing about the GMAT exam that sets it apart from other exams for admission to various management programmes is that the difficulty of each subsequent question is determined by the candidate. That is, because it is a computer-based test, the candidate is required to answer one question at a time, and the difficulty of the following question is determined based on the candidate’s response.

Changes made recently: the exam was formerly 4 hours long. However, beginning in 2019, the exam will be 30 minutes shorter. As a result, the exam will last 3 hours and 30 minutes, including the time allotted for instructions and a break. Candidates also have the option of choosing whatever area they want to answer first. Let’s take a look at the GMAT exam’s numerous characteristics.

It’s worth noting that fundamental information like a person’s name and date of birth can’t be changed once they’ve been verified. Please double-check that you have entered the correct information.

3] Verification of the Profile

The candidate must then confirm their account and details using their email address or phone number.

4] Exam Schedule Candidates can now schedule their test center and date after completing the verification process. It’s best to schedule your exam ahead of time to ensure that you get the center of your choice. This can be done online or over the phone (extra charges may be applicable).

For a GMAT test, you must choose three details

  1. Centre
  2. Date
  3. Time-Slot (if multiple are available for the same day)

GMAT Exam Pattern

Structure of the GMAT Exam lasts 3.5 hours and is a computer adaptive. On the GMAT, a candidate’s score might vary from 200 to 800 points. What does it mean to be “Computer-Adaptive”?

Computer-adaptive components of the GMAT include Quantitative and Verbal Reasoning. This means that as the candidate answers questions, the exam difficulty varies in real-time.

The first question in either the Verbal or Quantitative portions for each applicant will be of medium difficulty. As he/she answers each question, the computer scores it and utilizes it, along with the answers to all subsequent questions, to determine the next set of questions.

As a result, if you answer the first question properly, the system will normally ask you a tougher question. If you answer the first question incorrectly, the next question will be easy.

Remember: Because some questions are experimental and may occur at random, don’t be alarmed if an easy question appears in the middle of a section.

Candidates can now choose the order in which they want to take the sections on the GMAT.

The following are three examples of such arrangements:

1 Integrated Reasoning, Quantitative, Verbal,

2 Analytical Writing Assessment Assessments in Verbal, Quantitative, Integrated Reasoning, and

3. Analytical Writing Analytical Writing Assessment, Quantitative, Verbal, Integrated Reasoning

GMAT Syllabus

The Graduate Management Entrance Test (GMAT) is a computer adaptive test used to evaluate certain analytical, writing, quantitative, verbal, and reading skills in written English for use in graduate management degree admission. It began in 1953 and now offers over 7000 programmes at over 2300 graduate business schools throughout the world. For the most part, B schools use the GMAT score as a criterion for admission. The competition is fierce, and passing the GMAT exam is no walk in the park. Candidates must be completely prepared for the exam.

It is critical that interested applicants are familiar with the GMAT exam’s exam format and material. The examination will last 3 hours and 30 minutes, with two optional 8-minute breaks in between. Interested applicants should keep in mind that they cannot skip any of the portions because they are all required.

The GMAT exam follows the following pattern:-

Time in Minutes

Analytical Writing Assessment

Integrated Reasoning

Quantitative Reasoning

Verbal Reasoning

GMAT Admit Card

The GMAT, like any other exam, requires applicants to bring their admit cards with them. Candidates who fail to do so will be denied the opportunity to take the exam. The candidate’s admit card, along with a few other relevant documents, is extremely important. Once all applicants have completed their exam registration, the admit card link will be made available on the official website. At least two printouts of the admit card must be brought to the examination centre by the candidates.

The admission card will not be released on a specific day. After the registration page closes, candidates will receive an email with their admit card information. Because the GMAT is such a well-known and sought-after exam, there are numerous test locations throughout the country.

GMAT Cutoff

GMAT is an international level exam that a large number of students take all around the world. The exam is taken once a year and is a management exam that determines admission to major management colleges. The exam impacts not only your acceptance into institutions, but also how you will present yourself in a whole other environment. Quantitative aptitude, integrated reasoning and aptitude, verbal portion, and analytical writing evaluation are the four sections of the exam. The exam lasts three and a half hours in total.

The exam is one of the most popular exam processes, and passing it opens up a whole new universe of possibilities. The core test defines a student’s foundation for entering the world of management and business, as well as other sectors of life. However, your GMAT score isn’t the only criterion for admission to a reputable university.

The grading scheme is vital, but you should remember that you also need a solid curriculum vitae, confidence in the interview, and an abrupt and forthright attitude when applying to universities. Because that, not the examination, is the decisive factor.

The exam cutoff varies by university and might range from 200 to 700 in some situations. There are instances when the mark range varies dramatically and hence is entirely dependent on a student’s performance in that year’s examination. Because relative grading is used, you must do your best in any form or style you can because your score will be compared to the best in the examination..
