T.A. Pai Management Institute (TAPMI), Manipal Overview
The TA Pai Management Institute (shortened into, TAPMI) is a privately funded management college located in Manipal, Karnataka. It was established in 1980 by the veteran educator and entrepreneur, Tonse Ananth Pai. TAPMI is considered to be one of the earliest private business schools in India. The institute’s first full-time residential programme began in the 1984-85 season, with a batch size comprising of just 48 students.
TAPMI offers a two-year residential Post-Graduate Diploma in Management along with Post-Graduate Programmes in Healthcare Management, Banking & Financial Services, a Doctoral Programme and an 18-month MBA programme jointly taught by TAPMI in association with the University of Dubai. TAPMI works in close tandem with the UK based Sheffield Hallam University and the Australian Macquarie University.
Under the direction of Professor Madhu Veeraghavan, the TA Pai Institute of Management has consistent in developing their students into burgeoning professionals of the corporate world. The institute employs 53 core faculty members along with dozens of highly qualified and experienced individuals as adjunct faculty members. The TAPMI faculty members include high profile individuals such as Dr Aditya Jadhav, Prof Kaustav Saha and Prof Aparna Bhat.
Business Today’s “India’s Best B-School 2016” had ranked TAPMI 17th while Outlook India’s “Top 100 Management Schools 2016” had ranked them 15th. TAPMI became only the fifth management institute in India to have received dual accreditation from both the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and the Association of MBAs (AMBA).

The TA Pai Management Institute, Manipal offers a range of Post-Graduate Programmes and Diplomas which allows the students to pick up subjects from a range of specialisations. TAPMI Admission Process
The TA Pai Management Institute employs a strict process during the screening of students for admission. All of the courses with the exception of the PhD programme largely have the same minimum eligibility criteria. The candidate has to check all of the eligibility requirements in order to make a valid application. For its PG Diploma and PG Programmes, TAPMI only accepts the candidate’s score in CAT or XAT. Overseas applicants have to clear GMAT, instead. Should the candidate be shortlisted then they are called in for counselling.
TAPMI Manipal Admission Process
- TAPMI’s PG Diploma accepts the results of CAT, XAT and GMAT.
- The PG Programme also accepts the results of CAT, XAT and GMAT.
- The Executive PG Programme candidates have to clear a WAT arranged by TAPMI.
- The PhD candidates are skimmed down based on their performance in the TAPMI conducted entrance exam.
TAPMI Results and Cutoff
The entrance to the PG Diploma and PG Programmes is restricted by the applicant’s score in the entrance exam. Most of the TAPMI courses regulate their admission process based on the candidate’s score in CAT or XAT. Overseas applicants have to sit for GMAT. It is interesting to note that every year, TAPMI releases its cutoff percentile on the same day as the declaration of the CAT results. The institute does not assign sectional cutoffs.

- The CAT 2018 cutoff percentile for the General category students applying for TAPMI is 87.
- For the students belonging to the Other Backward Classes category of the society, the cutoff percentile is 75.
TAPMI considers placements to be one of its strong suites. There is an almost 100% placement across all the PG programmes taught by the university. With over six specialisations for recruiters to pick students from, TAPMI sees nearly 400 students get jobs via campus interviews. Recruiters come in long before the students have completed their studies and by the time, they graduate the students have a job of their choice in their hands.

TAPMI Alumni Network
The TA Pai Management Institute boasts an extensive alumni network composed of thousands of members, worldwide. The most celebrated of all the alumnus would include names such as Atul Mohan - Vice President - Human Resource and Administration, BlueStone; Kajal Kiran - the PR consultant for Bajaj Allianz and Times of India and the Managing Director and Head of International Markets at HSBC, Sundar Ramani. The institute maintains a large database that contains the contact information of their past students that help the alumnus maintain contact via social media and get in touch, as required.
The TA Pai Management Institute provides scholarships for those who are either academically brilliant or with recorded achievements in fields such as sports or art. Scholarships are also provided to those facing economic limitations. However, to avail the latter, the candidate has to submit their parents’ income tax returns to TAPMI. The IT return must show that their income is less than INR 3 lakhs, per annum else the scholarship would not be granted.
TAPMI Manipal Campus
TAPMI is located within its parent university, Manipal Academy of Higher Education. The entire covers an enormous 313 acres on the plateau town of Manipal. The campus is home to almost 30,000 people including students and staff. Restaurants, hostel blocks, libraries, classrooms and sporting facilities are all located within the borders. There are other features such as ATMs, post offices and convenience stores in the campus. The place is wi-fi connected 24*7 and follows ecologically allied practices to ensure a green and clean ambience.
