About College

Anna University Chennai was established in the year 1978 on 4th September. The founder of the university, C.N. Annadurai was then the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. It was converted to an affiliating university in 2001.

There are several Constituent Colleges, Regional Campuses and Affiliated colleges under Anna University.  The university offers many academic courses on different UG, PG and doctoral levels. BRICS nations have ranked the university 85th among other universities.

NAAC has re-accredited the university with a CGPA score of 3.46 and grade ‘A’. In 2018, the university was ranked 10th in the country by the National Institutional Ranking Framework.

Four university departments include College of Engineering (Guindy Campus), Madras Institute of Technology (Chrompet Campus), Alagappa College of Technology and the School of Architecture and Planning. Anna University ranking in the QS World University Rankings of 2018 was between 651-700, which was considered as Anna University world ranking.

It has been recognized as the “University with Potential for Excellence (UPE)” by the University Grants Commission (UGC). Anna University college ranking is 7th on the national level, which is also the Anna University ranking in India. Anna University Courses offered and Fee structure

Anna University offers various undergraduate and postgraduate courses for different streams. Doctorate courses are also offered in some disciplines. The departments of the university include Faculty of Technology, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Information and Communication Engineering, Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Faculty of Management Studies, Faculty of Science and Humanities etc.

The university has further divisions of Departments of Computer Technology, Computer Science and Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Printing Technology, Energy Studies, Aerospace Engineering etc.

 UG courses 

The university offers many Anna University courses on the undergraduate level like B.E, B.Arch, B.Tech etc. in different specializations. These subjects include Geo-informatics, Mining Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Rubber and Plastics Technology, Leather Technology, Manufacturing Engineering and many more.

The B.E and B.Tech courses are covered in four-year duration while B.Arch course is covered in a five-year duration. Anna University fees structure for B.Tech and B.E course range from Rs.80,000 to around 2 lakh.

PG courses

There is an array of postgraduate courses in Anna University. These courses include MBA, ME, M.Sc, MCA, MTech etc.

These programs are offered in various disciplines like Tourism Management, Digital Architecture, Bio-Pharmaceutical Technology, Computational Biology, Polymer Science and Engineering, High Voltage Engineering, VLSI Design, Avionics, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Electronic Media etc. These programs are offered as two-year programmes. M.E and M.Tech course fee are Rs. around 1.22 lakhs. 

Anna University Admission Process

All the applicants are admitted to the university courses on the basis of marks scored in the specified entrance exam. Candidates are required to score the cut-off or more in the entrance exams in order to secure a seat in a particular course offered by the university.

Candidates are required to qualify TNEA for UG courses, TANCET and GATE for PG courses and NATA scores are required for specific PG courses. To get the Anna University application format, go to the Anna University home page and check on the apply online option.

The TANCET includes MCQs (Multiple Choice Questions) on topics like Data Interpretation, Logical Reasoning, Computer Awareness, Verbal Ability, Engineering Mathematics etc. The entrance exam is followed by a counselling round.

The selection of the candidates depends on the combined performance in the marks scored in the entrance exam with the interview round score. 

  • For admission in M.E or M.Tech course, GATE score is considered.
  • Apart from the GATE score, for admission in ME, MPlan, MTech, MBA, MCA etc. courses, TANCET score is also considered.
  • For admission in MPhil and PhD courses at the higher level of study, qualifying exam score followed by an interview performance is considered.

Anna University Placements

Anna University has its own recruitment cell that facilitates the placement of its students. The placement cell ensures that every student gets placed according to his/her abilities and interests. Under expert supervision, a training session is conducted by the cell that includes activities like mock tests, mock interviews etc. that help students understand the real interview scenario.

The students are trained with specific skills like quantitative ability, personality development, logical reasoning etc. that enhances the chances of students’ selection by the recruiters. The university has association with a number of foreign and national universities and companies.

The centre for University Industry Collaboration placed 90% of the registered students last year. 

Anna University Results and Cut-off

Anna University announces the cut-off list after the qualifying exam Anna University results are declared for the year. Candidates have to cross the cut-off mark to get entry into a particular course. MBA candidates have to cross the TANCET cut-off score.

At the postgraduate level, for getting into M.Tech, M Plan etc. candidates have to cross the TANCA cut-off score.

The cut–off list is prepared by the university on the basis of the number of appearing candidates, difficulty level of the exam, their scores in the qualifying exam and number of seats available in the university for a particular course. In some of the cases Anna University counselling also takes place.

Anna University Alumni Network

The university has its own alumni association that works for the benefit of the institute and its students. The alumni association focuses on maintaining good relations with the distinguished alumni members of the university.

Anna University Scholarships

The university in association with RNTBCI provides merit cum means scholarships of upto 17 lakhs to the poor and meritorious students of the university. Medical Insurance Scheme, financial aid and tuition and hostel fee waiver are other forms of scholarships provided to encourage the financially weak and deserving students.

Anna University’s Wi-Fi enabled campus has a lot to offer to its students.
