SSC CGL Eligibility Criteria 2019 - Academic Qualification and Age Limit

SSC CGL 2019 Eligibility Criteria

If you are an SSC CGL aspirant, you must first determine whether you meet eligibility criteria as prescribed by Staff Selection Commission. The criteria is based on age, educational qualifications, nationality and prior number of attempts taken. Candidates need to ensure that they satisfy all the necessary conditions before applying online for SSC CGL exam.

Apart from eligibility criteria, candidate must also possess valid documents to establish proof for uploading during the online application process.

I] Nationality/ Citizenship

A candidate must be either

  • An Indian citizen OR
  • Nepalese/Bhutanese subject OR
  • A refugee from Tibet who came to India before the 1st January, 1962 OR
  • A person of Indian origin who migrated from Burma, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam

II] Age
The Staff Selection Commission sets age eligibility differently for every post. Generally speaking the minimum age of a candidate applying for SSC CGL must be 18 years and maximum age must be 32 years. [As on 1st Aug, 2018]

The detailed age cutoff is as mentioned in the notification elaborately. Age limit will be reckoned as on 1st August, 2018 based on the following specifications:

(i) For Post with age limit 20-27 years Candidate must have been born between 2nd August 1991 and 1st August 1998
(ii) For Post with age limit 18-27 years Candidate must have been born between 2nd August 1991 and 1st August 2000
(iii) For Post with age limit 20-30 years Candidate must have been born between 2nd August 1988 and 1st August 1998
(iv) For Post with age limit 18-30 years Candidate must have been born between 2nd August 1988 and 1st August 2000
(v) For Post with age limit 18-32 years Candidate must have been born between 2nd August 1986 and 1st August 2000

Age as stated on 10th/12th Mark sheet (DoB mentioned on the sheet) will be treated as final.

III] Educational Qualifications

Each post has definite educational qualification criteria attached with it based on nature of work to be undertaken. The following list entails the degree to be possessed by the candidate to apply for given posts.

Post Educational Qualification Required
Assistant Audit Officer/ Assistant Accounts Officer (a) Essential Qualifications: Graduate (Bachelors) from a GoI recognized university

(b) Desirable Qualifications:

  • Chartered Accountant (CA) OR
  • Management & Cost Accountant OR
  • Company Secretary (CS) OR
  • M.Com. OR
  • Masters in Business Studies/Business Administration (Finance)/Business Economics.

Direct recruits need to qualify the “Subordinate Audit Service Examination” for their regular appointment to posts of Assistant Audit Officer/ Assistant Accounts Officer during the probationary period.

Junior Statistical Officer Graduation in any subject from a recognised University with minimum 60% marks in Mathematics at Std. 12 level OR

Bachelor’s in any subject with Statistics as one of the degree subjects.

All other Posts Bachelor’s Degree from a recognised University or any such equivalent qualification
The candidates who are appearing in the final year of graduation can apply, however they must possess the qualification as mentioned above on or before 1st August 2018.

For the following posts, Computer Proficiency Test has also been prescribed as an Essential Qualification:

  • Assistant Section Officer (CSS)
  • Assistant Section Officer (MEA)
  • Assistant in Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) under M/o Corporate Affairs
  • Assistant (GSI) in M/o Mines
