About IIT Dhanbad and the Management Department
The Indian Institute of Technology, Dhanbad has been providing quality education since the beginning of times. With unique teaching methodologies, the institution has been imparting technical education since its conversion into an IIT institution from the Indian School of Mines. Post the establishment of the IIT centre of education, the Industrial Engineering and Management (IE & M) department in the year 1977 offering post-graduation courses like MTech.
The Industrial Engineering and Management (IE & M) department was run by the authorities at a different location for almost two decades. Therefore, the programme gained the attention of young professionals aiming to transform their profiles and learning with the expertise offered at the institution. However, with time, positive changes were accepted, and the department was transformed into the Department of Management studies and launched the MBA programme in 1997.

The Management department also comprises of a Training and placement cell with a placement advisor supervising different activities. - On postgraduate level, the institute offers two-year full-time M.Tech courses with a fee of 1.15 lakhs.
- On the doctorate level, candidates can choose a three-year full-time PhD course with 1.20 lakhs of a fee.
IIT (ISM) Dhanbad Admission Process
All the applicants of undergraduate and postgraduate courses have to pass JEE Main and GATE, respectively to get admission in the institute.
JEE Mains is followed by JoSAA counselling round, which leads to a personal interview. The final selection of the candidates is based on the combined results of previous year’s exam score, GATE or JEE result & personal interview.
- For admission in B. Tech. course, candidates require certain JEE Mains score.
- For admission in M. Tech. course, candidates require certain GATE score.
- For admission in the Ph.D. course, candidates require to have to get a certain score in the Entrance Examination.
