IIT Dhanbad Campus Life

IIT Dhanbad is positioned at a distance of 260 kilometers from Kolkata, right at the heart of the nation's prominent coking coal belt. The fully self-contained campus of IIT(ISM) covers a vast expanse of 393 acres, consisting of 218 acres in the current campus and an additional 175 acres dedicated to future expansion and development. This campus is equipped with all the facilities and infrastructure expected from a top-tier academic institution.

Scholarships at IIT ISM Dhanbad

Indian Institute of Technology Dhanbad offers over 30 scholarships, including merit-based, need-based, annual assessment, technical paper publishing, and JRF. ISMAA and the Indian School of Mines Alumni Association of North America (ISMAANA) awarded more than INR 1.2 crore in scholarships. In addition, IIT Dhanbad offers a full fee waiver to OBC and General category students whose family income is less than INR 6 LPA through the Merit-cum-means Scholarship.

• ISMAANA awards USD 1000 to ten students from each B.Tech year, according to Peggy and Avinash Ahuja. The list of students from each year is chosen on the basis of merit cum means (MCM).
• Pramod and Meera Thakur Trust (PMTT): ISMAANA offers a USD 1000 MCM scholarship to one student from the Mining Engineering Branch.
• Inder Mohan Thapar Research Fellowship: The Inder Mohan Thapar Foundation Trust and the Karam Chand Thapar Group each award a student from one of six departments: mining engineering, petroleum engineering, environmental science and engineering, fuel and mineral engineering, applied physics, and humanities and social sciences. The scholarship is worth INR 3 lakhs.

Each department at IIT Dhanbad has an average of 45 faculty members. Prof Ram Madhav Bhattacharjee, Head of the Mining Engineering Department, is a member of the NITI AAYOG expert group. Many professors, including Prof Parthasarathi Das, have been elected Fellows of the Royal Society of Chemistry.

As of now, the faculty-to-student ratio at IIT Dhanbad is 1:22. With an increase in student intake, the institute's faculty ratio has slipped slightly from the previous ratio.

5. Rabi Narayan Bastia - An Indian geoscientist who currently serves as the Global Head of Exploration for Lime Petroleum in Norway.

6. Deblina Sarkar - A scientist and inventor from India, she is an Assistant Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and holds the AT&T Career Development Chair Professorship at the MIT Media Lab.
