NIFT Shillong campus was established in the year 2008 in an area of over 20 acres. Initially, it offered only UG courses. In the year 2013, it added the PG programme and the first batch in the programme comprised of 43 candidates. The campus is wide and airy that serves as an encouraging environment.

NIFT campus in Shillong offers spacious classrooms, resource centre, and many other departments. NIFT Library has about 3,300 books on fashion design, fashion research, textile design, fashion communication, magazines, national and international magazines related to fashion, online resources, e-books, etc. The library also provides a well-arranged sitting area and the surrounding is calm and quiet so that students can have the best concentration while they study.

Apart from that, each classroom is well furnished for the comfort of students. There is a meeting hall, auditorium, sports section, area for leisure activities, canteen, indoor game zone and sitting area. It also provides lab where samples and prototypes of the fabrics are included, which gives students the best of the practical learning. On the basis of the materials and samples, students perform various experiments.
