I had a dream.
I had a wish
I had a desire

On the contour of these starts the journey of My MBA dream . I finally got that dream admit IIM S. which we call now as IIM ONE Indian Institute of Management Of North East.
As like any other person I had some initial apprehension about IIM S and its location. zillion of question were running in my head. so finally decided to pay a visit.
All packed I reached Shillong and next day .The Temporary campus is in the main city . One need to say the place name Nongthymmai and say old NEHU campus. jst dont say NEHU otherwise they will take u to new NEHU( North eastern hill University) Campus.
The Insti is on half and hr distance from the main city center. On the way it was so much crowded that I was stuck in traffic jam true!!! Traffic jam ..such is the number of taxis are there.
After a long dual with traffic. I was standing outside the gate of my alma mater. As soon I informed that I have been offered admission there . boy! I was given such a warm welcome by our dear colonel Gosh. man ! he is just one lively person. Our security in charge and such a zeal to make things happen there . I was given preferential treatment over others who were waiting to meet the Director. after few minutes I was ushered in the director's room . The kind of personality I encountered got me thrilled with every aspect of the two yrs I m gonna spend in this place. After getting all my queries answered I was allowed to take the tour of campus.
For 60 students the kind of place it is one word describes it all
"fantabulous"

The Hostels were also pretty neat. bathrooms all marble floored. I fond girls hostels better than boys 😐 there hostels were facing the valley side and what a beautiful view it has. Girls room also has been given feminine touch with all pick colour..n yeah hey have wooden flooring.. felt more like a resort room

After the campus visit and getting assured. I took the tour of other places and also went to cherapunji n Boy!! yes I was all in love. Major crowd that come there comprises of bengali . some nice beauty was and dressing was all the air is alot western ;)
Got to discover some good food joints like city hat dhaba. There was even Vishal mega mart:-P and all prominent bank branches like axis, icici, hdfc, vijaya et al

mesmerized I came back.
15 days to go till I become a part of these magical alphabets. I I M

THE PICS which I CLicked :)

Sounds really good. Wont spam. But plz do keep doing the honours of updating at PG about IIM S life inspite of those assignments and cases. 😉

There is something about the north east they say. enticing as it may seems. The cloudy monsoon . The hills the view and now we have the 7 th IIM . yes IIM shillong.
Reached on 1st july with the greed to catch the best of the rooms. but as soon I entered the registration counter of the room. aila! I get a basked with full of room nos. yeah u guessed it right it was on lottery basis 😞 and voila!! I got a single room. There has been massive devolpment in jst 20 days. this shows the kind of enthu we are carrying.
for any work for volunteers..up goes the hands of all the students all the time.. had best of the first night with a full night out and drizzling rain.
room with all the necessary facilities.. we even had curtains and all.
students ere pouring from all side of the country. It was like a kind of carnival going on in this side of world. I can fill it in the air.. within me..among us all the magic of IIM ...IIM S..
yeah we have share of pur problems like our wifi connectivity will b delayed for some time.. like a week as they said.. but man! who need any wifi right now when we have GBs of data and movies flowing around. and some nice flics 😉 too

within a day we have got a store a booth in our hostel and ye ye ye!! food is jst aweeeeeeeeesome.. ghar ka khana.. man! m jst loving it with paneer.. gobhi and yummy parathas..chole bathure and what not!!

today we had our resgistratin process going on.. it was a breeze affair with SBI giving us pre approved loans.. whole block got the BSNL applied for BSNL connecion today.
Tomm starts our inaugural function.. a great day in history AMERICAN INDEPENDENCE DAY and we have our IIM going to come live

they said that people are sceptic they said we wont have best of faculty
and what I read this today in the morning newspaper

The Telegraph - Calcutta (Kolkata) Nation US faculty for Shillong IIM

so I must say to know prodly vociferously.. eloquently

Success.. starts with S ..and so is IIM S ;)

The 4th day of July is usually famous owing to it being celebrated as the independence day of the USA. While the stars and stripes were fluttering in the US, the stage was set elsewhere back home in India in the Scotland of the East (better known as Shillong the capital of the state of Meghalaya) for a pioneering purpose.
The inauguration of the first batch of the Indian Institute of Management was scheduled at the North Eastern Council Secretariat today. For the uninitiated, the 7th and the latest IIM has started operations in the hill city much against the expectations of many skeptics across the country.
The inauguration had Dr. Don Kupar Roy - the Hon. CM of Meghalaya as the Chief Guest, Sri T K Nayar (IAS) The Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, who presided over the function, and Sri Arjun Malhotra The Co-founder of HCL and the current Chairman of Headstrong Inc. as the guest of honor.
The ambience of the well lit auditorium was further enhanced by the presence of other eminent dignitaries including the Director of IIM Shillong Sri Ashoke Dutta and the Chairman of the Board of Governers of IIM Shillong, Sri R N Dutta who incidentally is the Ex-Chairman of Price Waterhouse Coopers. The representation from the media included television channels such as NDTV, Doordarshan and several regional channels of the North East.
The program included talks from the various speakers who shared their vision on how the IIM would help benefit the North Eastern region by virtue of its presence as a center of excellence thus enabling the local population as well by way of leveraging the best practices and latest teaching pedagogy made available at the IIM.
The talk by Mr. Arjun Malhotra was indeed inspirational. While quoting Asias first Nobel laureate Sri Rabindranath Tagore, Mr. Malhotra emphasized that times have indeed changed and that the world now looks at India as an Intellectual and economic super power -the IITs and the IIMs would be pivotal in sustaining this momentum.
Prof. Ashoke Dutta was categorical in mentioning that despite several doubts and questions raised from different quarters, the IIM was set up in a record time of 4 months and emphasized that the State Government and the Board of Governors would do all in their capacity to model IIM Shillong as one of the best in the country. As quoted previously in the media, IIM Shillong will be equipped with the best IT infrastructure thus truly making it the first and the best tech savvy IIM of the 21st century.
It may be recalled that IIM Shillong was the first IIM to accept online applications with no additional fee for the same. IIM Shillong will also be the first IIM to hire foreign faculty especially from the USA in order to bring in the best in class global practices and business know how at the door step of its students.
With a battery of highly competent and distinguished faculty, idyllic surroundings amidst the un plundered nature and a batch of pioneering students with the zest to perform, the stage is all set to give the other IIMs and the rest of the B schools in the country, a run for their money.
But, for the moment, the journey has just begun

Ahem!

First of all sorry for a very late post(thanks to lenovo, i still havent received my laptop ) A lot has been said about IIM S but i just cudnt resist my temptation to post. Let me start frm the flight,

1. Indigo has cancelled our flight at 1am(yes am) and the flight was at 5.45am... we finally booked a Air Deccan(almost double the price) and reached kolkata, met sarret etc and took a flight to Shillong, it was an awesome view of Shillong !!!(will try and post the photo's link later)

2. Reached IIM S on 1st July, got a single room on lottery basis. One of the best hostel i have seen(that too in a govt college)

3. did a round of intros and took some photos etc... and went off to shopping

4. Police bazaar(shopping place in shillong) is serious as huge or even bigger than Shivaji nagar in blore

5. did shopping and all for 1 day(2 july)... did the registration, loan, bank account etc on 3rd july and finally inauguration on 4th, enough as already been said. When the inauguration was over we all stood for a group photo and all the new channels, press ppl started taking photos, for that moment i felt like a celebrity

6. orientation started on 5th(yes saturday !) and after a formal intro about the profs and students... i went to shoppin again and on 6th we all went around shillong.... in a word it was AWESOME!!

7. Then came 7th first day in college started....

Will post more later.. gtg now
cya!

ps: forgive me if there are any spelling mistakes etc...

hi all,

Just to describe life at IIM shillong as fascinating will be an understatement. I would say its an adventure cum learning for the batch of about 60 students. Its truly a management institute wherein you cannot take things for granted. Resources are scarce and optimization is mantra for us here.

When i got an admit for IIM shillong in the first list i cursed God that why in shillong.. it should have been in chennai, hyderabad or any other metro cities which would have thrown open large number of companies in campus for recruitment. But after coming here, man, the true essence came into light. We were told about the conditions of Northeast and the purpose of having an IIM here. I think North east truly deserves an iim.. There is lot of improvements that can be brought in the public, society and systems. By positioning IIM here, government wants to see a sea change and i am sure we are capable enough to bring a change here. And lastly any company would not like to miss the oppurtuntity to recruit us as students here will have comprehensive experience on work and studies.

first thing striked me is the untapped potential here. Lot of greeneries, good english speaking public, tourism, rainfall harvesting... hey you name it there is oppurtunity around.

I had my own share of doubts when i packed my bags considering the infrastructure, faculty, blah blah. But the team alongwith director is burning midnight oil to provide facilities which other institutes are going to talk about in the future. We will also be helping them in the near future to realise that goal.

With that note i sign off as of now as i have to prepare for statistics class tomorrow. (lot to study).

Regards
Hari

This thread is about the life, and I feel I have not mentioned anything about it yet..... So how is it to be staying here???? well this is my first time living alone and I was very sceptical about the kind of life I would get my self into, but as soon as I stepped in Shillong all my doubts vanished, Shillong is no village by any stretch of imagination, its pretty well developed place with good facilities, we have the city centre or police bazaar here where we get every thing of necessity, there is a vishal mega mart the shop that is the ultimate supplier of all the necessities.

When I was stepping into Shillong I was most worried because I was told that cell phones do not work here, but the fact is that prepaid cell phones and reliance CDMA do not work here, I had a post paid so there was nothing much for me to worry about. We have here 3-4 service providers who give good service so not much to worry about at this end

After reaching coll, I was spell bound, its simply beautiful, lush green campus all around, the palce which is the main building and the good quality hostel rooms. The rooms we have are great, I happen to be one of the ppl with double rooms but its spacious and there is no much problem. In the room we have been provided with one good bed, a very comfortable mattress, an office chair, a study table, a pillow, pillow cover a bucket and a mug. If you need something you can just climb down to the in-house grocery cum stationary store which provides you with all the basis necessities. If you can't find something here, tell the lady to get it and the stuff can be collected on the next day, in case you are in a real hurry you can take a 5 mins walk to the nearest market to get everything you would possibly need. SBI has opened up an ATM right next to the main door so even the money problem gets solved.

So what's the next big question???? for a guy its obviously: "SO HOW MANY GIRLS DO WE HAVE" the answer I must say is pleasing; we have 10 girls in our college, very frankly I was not expecting so many girls would be willing to join IIM S but I wrong. The ratio of boys to girls thus is amongst the healthiest amongst all IIMs!!!!!

The other big question was faculty, we have great faculty here, the exact count as of now is 10 and the director had told us that he is currently hiring more ppl so the no of faculty would increase soon. The teachers are simply awesome, their profiles are great and we have ppl with loads and loads of experience!!!!!! We had a chance to interact with all the faculties and getting to know them up-close I was simply amazed. We knew that we are getting our own faculty and not a borrowed one from other iims but these, am sure are at par with them. We have further got permission to get foreign faculty which would definitely be great.....

There is a lot more to write but have a lot to study so would have to go now.....
Take care

am writing this post from the class....
yes we have wifi connectivity available all over the campus including the class room!!!!!
but nobody have the guts to surf during classes
am posting this in the short gap i got b/w 2 lecturers

we had our first lecture at 830 today, and the class room doors were locked at exactly that time, i was expecting that atleast 5-10 students would miss the class but hey all of us made it in time!!!!!!

oh god...
next tearcher has come...
more details later!!!!
