National Institute of Fashion Technology, Shillong commenced in the month of June 2008. Earlier the campus was situated in the North-Eastern campus of Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences. This institute was among the other four new centres of NIFT that also began functioning in the year 2008.

NIFT Shillong offers several fashion courses on different academic levels such as undergraduate and postgraduate. The institute offers B. Des, M. Des and M.F.M. course. These courses include subjects like Fashion Communication (UG), Fashion Design (UG), Fashion Management (PG), Accessory Design (UG) etc.

The Shillong NIFT is approved by the Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India. NIFT Shillong is also approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). NIFT Shillong Courses offered and Fee structure

NIFT courses include fashion designing programme at different academic levels such as UG and PG. These courses include B. Des, M. Des, MFM. The courses are offered in subjects like Fashion Design, Fashion Management, Accessory Design, etc.

The duration NIFT Shillong courses vary from 2 years to 4 years, where PG programme are offered with 2 years time and UG is offered for a period of 4 years. B. Des course fee is 11.35 lakhs and MFM course fee is 4.54 lakh.

NIFT Shillong Admission Process

Applicants get admitted to a particular fashion course on the basis of the marks scored in the qualifying exam. For NIFT admission, candidates are required to get certain marks in entrance exams. These qualifying exams include CAT (Creative Ability Test) and GAT (General Ability Test). B. Des and M. Des candidates are required to get certain scores in the CAT exam. B. F. Tech candidates require certain marks in the GAT exam. These qualifying exams are followed by group discussion (GD) round and personal interview round (PI). The selection of the candidates depends on the combined marks obtained in the CAT / GAT exam and group discussion and personal interview. NIFT Shillong admission follows the same procedure.

• For admission in full-time M. Des course, CAT score is considered.
• For admission in full-time B.F. Tech course, GAT score is considered.

NIFT Shillong Placements

NIFT Shillong placements are offered to candidates with excellent job opportunities. The institute has collaborations with the foreign institutes that enable students to gain foreign exposure through internships in foreign countries. The institute has a training and placement cell that facilitates the NIFT placements for every passed out student under the guidance of the head of the cell. This training cell organizes a training session in which students’ soft skills are improved. They have to face mock tests, mock interviews to understand the real interview environment. Students are given hands-on experience and face the real workspace challenges.

NIFT Shillong ranking or cut-off mark is required to be crossed by the candidates. The M. Des candidates are required to cross the CAT cut-off mark while the M.F. Tech candidates are required to cross the GAT cut-off mark. 

The cut-off list prepared on the basis of a number of factors like the total number of aspirants appearing in the qualifying exam, their marks in the qualifying exam, difficulty level of the qualifying exam and the number of seats available in the institute for a particular course.
