Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad Campus Facilities
IIM Ahmedabad Campus:
The IIM-A campus lies sprawled across 102 acres in Vastrapur, Ahmedabad. The campus consists of academic blocks, administrative offices, student and faculty accommodation, a library complex, an auditorium, the Louis Kahn Plaza, two management development centres, the Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship, sports and recreation facilities, multiple eateries and food outlets along with merchandise stores.
The IIM-A campus was designed by American architect Louis Kahn who worked on the IIMA project from 1962 until his death in 1974. The usage of exposed red bricks, the extensive use of geometric shapes in hostels and academic blocks and vast corridors outside the classrooms are all typical characteristics of Kahn’s architecture.
The Vikram Sarabhai Library Complex
The library complex at IIM-A is named after the institute’s founder, Vikram Sarabhai. The library was founded in 1962 and accommodates over 1,93,000 books along with online subscriptions to 24,000 journals.
It provides access to more than 100 digital databases relating to scholarly and industry information to the IIM-A students. The library is located at the Louis Kahn Plaza.
The students at IIM-A are provided with single room accommodation. There are 33 fully furnished dormitories spread around the campus. Students with families can opt to live with their family in married students’ hostels which consist of furnished hostels.
To take up residence in the dormitories is mandatory for students. Amenities such as washing machines, refrigerators and TVs are available for each dorm.
IIM-A has extensive recreational facilities for its students. These include access to a gym, basketball, tennis and badminton courts, running tracks, cricket and football grounds, restaurants and a recreation centre which consists of a swimming pool among other features.
The campus is wifi active with internet facilities being provided to students for both academic and recreational purposes.
