IIM Application Process 2027

IIM Ahmedabad admissions are primarily based on entrance exam scores. The admission process for the flagship MBA programme begins with CAT registration, which generally opens in August and remains open until September. The CAT exam is usually conducted in November. In addition to CAT, IIM Ahmedabad conducts its own admission test for select programmes, including MBA-BPGP in Business Analytics & AI and MBA-BPGP.

Before applying for any of the IIM Ahmedabad courses, candidates should check the eligibility requirements for their preferred programme:

  • MBA: Bachelor’s degree from a recognised university with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks. For SC, ST and PwD candidates, the minimum requirement is 45%.

  • MBA-PGPX: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in any discipline, minimum age of 25 years as on March 31, 2027, and at least four years of full-time work experience.

  • MBA-BPGP courses: Bachelor’s degree, CA, CS, ICWA, CMA or equivalent qualification in any discipline with at least 50% aggregate marks. Candidates should be working professionals or entrepreneurs with a minimum of three years of full-time work experience after graduation.

  • ePGD-ABA: Bachelor’s degree with strong quantitative and analytical problem-solving skills and preferably at least two years of work experience, particularly in Business Analytics.

  • PhD: Master’s degree or a two-year PG Diploma obtained after a bachelor’s degree with at least 55% aggregate marks, or a five-year Integrated Master’s degree obtained after Class 12, with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks.

Candidates can follow the steps below to understand the IIM Ahmedabad admission process.

Step 1: IIM Ahmedabad Application Process 2027

MBA application: Candidates seeking admission to the flagship MBA (PGP) programme must register for CAT. The CAT application fee is INR 2,700 for General category candidates and INR 1,350 for SC, ST and PwD candidates.

Application for other courses: Candidates applying for MBA-PGPX, MBA-BPGP in BA & AI, ePGD-ABA, PhD and MBA-BPGP need to apply through the IIM Ahmedabad admission portal. For BPGP-BA & AI, the application fee is INR 2,000 for candidates applying through CAT/GMAT/GRE scores, while those appearing for the IIMA Admission Test need to pay INR 5,000. The application fee for PGPX is INR 8,000, while PhD candidates need to pay INR 500 (INR 250 for reserved category candidates).

Step 2: Entrance Test and Selection

For admission to the flagship MBA programme, candidates must submit their CAT scores. Shortlisted candidates are invited for the Analytical Writing Test (AWT) and Personal Interview (PI) rounds. Call letters are issued to candidates selected for these stages.

Candidates who meet or exceed the IIM Ahmedabad cutoff may be considered for shortlisting. The estimated closing percentile for the General AI category in the IIM Ahmedabad 2025 cutoff was 99 percentile. This figure is indicative and should not be considered the final admission cutoff, as the actual selection also depends on other factors.

The selection criteria for other programmes are as follows:

  • MBA-PGPX: GMAT/GRE + PI

  • MBA-BPGP in BA & AI: CAT/GMAT/GRE/IIMA Admission Test + PI

  • MBA-BPGP: CAT/GMAT/GRE/IIMA Admission Test + PI

  • ePGD-ABA: CAT/GATE/GMAT/GRE or ePGD-ABA qualifying-cum-aptitude test + PI

  • PhD: CAT + PI

Step 3: IIM Ahmedabad Cutoff

Admission to the MBA programme is based on CAT scores along with other selection parameters. Candidates must meet the CAT qualifying cutoff to be considered for the AWT and PI rounds.

The final selection considers several factors, including academic performance, CAT score, work experience, co-curricular and extracurricular achievements, and performance in the selection rounds.

The overall qualifying CAT 2025 cutoff for non-PwD candidates was 95 percentile for General/EWS, 90 percentile for NC-OBC, 80 percentile for SC and 75 percentile for ST candidates.

Step 4: Admission Confirmation

After completion of all selection rounds, IIM Ahmedabad releases admission offers to shortlisted candidates. Candidates must accept the offer and complete the required fee payment to confirm their admission.
