About College

Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani was popularly known as BITS Pilani. The college was established in the year 1929 and was transformed from a regional engineering college to the deemed university in the year 1964. The college is one of the renowned institution in the country for engineering, management, Pharmacy and technical education. The university has its three campuses located in Dubai, Goa and Hyderabad. The main campus of the university is located in Pilani.

The institute is wholly managed by Aditya Birla group and is approved by University Grants Commission (UGC). BITS, Goa is a Deemed University and is accredited ‘Grade A’ by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The Institute offers BE, Integrated M.Sc., ME and PhD courses. Admissions to these courses will be made by Entrance Exams – BITSAT (BE and Integrated M.Sc.) and GATE/ Online Entrance Test (ME).

BITS Pilani is located in a small town named Pilani in the Rajasthan state. The college campus is spread in an area of 990 acres. The college campus comprises of all major facilities for carrying the education of the students in an advanced manner, with their overall development. The college is located at a distance 220 km from national capital Delhi.


  • BITSAT scores make admission to UG courses.
  • Candidates can apply online for BITSAT by filling an online form and providing program preferences along with class 12th scores.
  • In case of MBA, candidates are shortlisted by CAT/GMAT scores, as well as performance in GD and PI rounds.
  • For admission to M.Pharm and ME courses , candidates are required to appear in the online entrance test conducted by BITS across different cities.
  • Registrations for admission to PG courses generally commence in April every year.
  • Admission to PhD courses is made by marks scored in written entrance test and interview.

BITS Pilani is a preferred destination to recruit from, for a large number of companies. University feels validated in the quality of education and experience university provide to our students when a majority of our students are successfully placed on campus. BITS has a remarkable placement record and most students have their careers charted out well before they complete graduation. The Institute provides rooms for presentation, tests and interviews etc. to the various companies that visit the campus.

BITS Pilani, has excellent record. Many renowned companies from the core engineering sector visit the campus for the campus recruitment of the students. The T&P cell of the college assist the students in their placement process and conducts various personality development programs for the students. The top recruiters include Infosys, Microsoft, Adobe, Wipro, L&T, Samsung etc.

Infrastructure and Facilities

BITS, Pilani is established on the land of Rajasthan, that is why the Institute is surrounded by many historic places. The campus is covered with wooden paths and spread over 328 acres.


The Institute is fully residential and hostel accommodation is provided to all students. There are eleven hostels for boys and one hostel complex for girls. The hostel rooms are fully furnished. Common room facilities with Cable TV and telephone are available in each hostel. Internet connectivity has been provided in all hostel rooms. Solar water heating systems are provided in all the hostels.


BITS, Pilani has large size classrooms which are fully furnished and have very strong network connectivity. Classrooms are fully equipped with all the necessary amenities for easy access.


BITS, Pilani has fully air-conditioned labs. A laboratory has many computers for better working progress.


Institute has Clubs & Committees for organising Sports Competitions, etc. Students take active participation in all these activities.

Extra – Curricular:

A classical music circle called Ragamalika aims at encouraging budding talent among the students in music and dance. It also arranges performances by leading artists in the field of classical music and dance.


The library building has a very modern design and it provides well-lit reading halls, stacks, display area, e-library, audio-visual library and study carrels, ramps and lifts, etc.


Scholarships at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, [BITS] Pilani

A large number of scholarships, fellowships, and other financial assistance are available to the students of the institute.

Institute Merit and Merit-cum-Need Scholarships:

Students admitted to Integrated First Degree Programmes are eligible to receive these awards.
The merit awards cover reimbursement of full semester fees and admission fees for top ten students of each batch, and 50% or 25% semester and admission fees for those selected for Merit-Cum-Need awards.
In favor of the merit awards, students are automatically considered, and students desirous of being considered for the merit-cum-need awards need to apply each semester in response to the concerned notice.
On an average, these awards benefit a little over 20% of the students.

All awards are made for one semester only, and their continuance in the subsequent semester depends upon the candidate’s performance in the institute.

Student Aid Fund:

Some financial assistance may also be obtained from this fund.
These awards are made normally in the second semester only. Students have to apply for this assistance in response to a notice.

Other Scholarships & Aids:

Student Welfare Division also forwards applications from students for scholarship/ financial aid to external agencies.
The Division, in the case of special need, tries its best to help the students, by all possible means.

Various schemes operate under the Earn While You Learn Programme (EWYLP) from which financial assistance is available.
These include magazine distribution, service in supermarket ‘Akshay’ or in the library. EWYLP operates through Community Welfare Unit.

Professional Assistantship:

Some students are selected as Professional Assistants each semester for laboratory work, office assistance etc.
The selection and operation of the assistantship is done through Instruction Division.
