About College

Founded by Padma Bhusan Vallal Dr.R.M.Alagappa Chettiar under a Special Act of the Government of Tamil Nadu in May 1985, the University Grants Commission (UGC) approved Alagappa University is a public university. Alagappa University Chennai address is in Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu, India.

A member of the AIU and the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), Alagappa University was the first institution in Tamil Nadu to get A+ grade by NAAC with a score of 3.64.

The Bachelor of Business Administration full-time course provides degrees in Airport and Airline Management, Aviation, Banking, International Business etc over a period of three years.

The three-year-long Bachelor of Science programme provides degrees in Interior Design, Nautical Science, Fashion Design, Psychology, Catering Science and Hotel Management, Catering and Hotel Administration, Animation Design, Computer Science, Game Design and Development, Aviation, Mathematics, Information Technology,

Users Interface and User Experience Design etc. The Bachelor of Commerce programme provides specializations in Computer Applications and Banking Finance Service & Insurance.

Alagappa University Admission Process

All the applicants are admitted to the university courses based on the marks scored in their qualifying degree, entrance examination or admission tests. Candidates need to score above a specified mark in these exams to get admitted to a particular course or discipline. 

  • For the B.P.Ed and D.P.Ed courses, admission is based on the performance in Medical Test, Physical Efficiency Test and Game Test Marks.
  • Admission to the B.Ed programme is based on marks obtained in the entrance test.
  • For the MBA and MCA degree, admission is based on the marks scored in the Entrance Test followed by Group Discussion and Personal Interview.
  • For the M.Sc in Physics, Chemistry, Microbiology, and Biotechnology courses, admission is based on performance in Entrance Test followed by Group Discussion and Personal Interview.
  • For the PhD admissions, candidates are selected on the basis of performance in written test and personal interview.
  • For the M.Phil admissions, candidates are selected on the basis of performance in the entrance test.
  • Admission to all other UG, PG and PG Diploma programmes is based on merit in the qualifying examination.

Alagappa University Results and Cut-off

Alagappa University declares the cut-off list for its several courses and degrees once Alagappa University result for their respective entrance examinations is calculated.

The candidates need to obtain a score which is equal to or more than the cut-off mark specified by the university to get admitted to their desired courses. The cut-offs are relaxed for reserved candidates like SCs, STs and OBCs.

Alagappa University address is situated at College Road, Alagappa Puram, Karaikudi in Tamil Nadu district and its pincode is  630003.

The library at Alagappa University keeps a rich collection of about one lakh volumes of printed books, 492 items of non-book materials, over 6242 numbers of online journals and more than 1,31,000 e-theses. It is subscribed to 149 printed periodicals out of which 1,446 volumes are in printed format.

The university provides hostel or lodging provisions for both boys and girls. It has a total of 15 hostels which altogether consists of 427 rooms. The hostel buildings can accommodate a total of 1,200 students.

The university has a Badminton Court, Basketball Court, Cricket Ground, Football Ground, Tennis Court, Throw ball Court, Volleyball Court, Tennikoit Court, Kho-Kho Court, Kabaddi Court, three Handball Fields, four Hockey Fields and an Athletics Track.

Out of the many laboratories present under the university a few distinct ones include Glotto phone Conventional Language Lab, Nano Physics Lab, Wet Lab and Open Sea Farming, Physical Oceanography Lab, Nano Biotechnology Lab etc.
