Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) aims in fulfilling the recruitment needs of new employees in the Indian Railways and it is a Government Board of India. RRB conducts Non-Technical popular categories exam to select the candidates for various posts in RRB. Railways Department is one among the biggest recruiter in India. RRB Group D comes under the Central Government category. As this is a central government job, the competition will be high. The candidates must prepare for the exams by having a look at the exam pattern before they start their preparations.

RB Group D will be a great opportunity for the candidates who have passed their 10th and 12th standards. There are various posts in Group D. They are: cabin man, Pointsman, Keyman, Leverman, Fitter, gang man, point’s man etc. the work location will be all over India. The employees will also be eligible for promotion after a regular service of 3 years.

Important Dates:    

In the year 2018, RRB will be conducting exams for recruiting the candidates to fill 62,907 vacancies for Group D. The starting date for applicants to apply for this exam is 10th February 2018 and the last date to apply for this exam is 12th March 2018. The E-Call letter can be downloaded from the official website from 4 days prior to the commencement of the exam.

Selection process and Exam Pattern:

The selection process comprises of 3 stages:

  1.    Computer Based Test (CBT)
  2.    Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
  3.    Document Verification
  4.    Computer Based Test: CBT is the first stage in Group D exam. It will contain a total of 100 questions with 90 minutes duration for general candidates and 120 minutes for PWD candidates. The exam will be of multiple-choice types. It consists of four sections: Mathematics- 25 questions, General Intelligence & Reasoning-30 questions, General Science-25 questions, and General Awareness & Current Affairs-20 questions. 1/3 marks will be deducted as a negative mark for each question’s wrong answers. The minimum percentage of marks required to clear the CBT category wise is Gen-40%, OBC-30%, SC-30%, and ST-30%. The mentioned percentage of marks may be relaxed by 2% for Persons with Disabilities (PWD) if there is a shortage of PWD candidates vacancies reserved for them.
  5.    Physical Efficiency Test: Based on the ranking of the candidates in CBT, the candidates will be called for PET. The candidates selected for this stage will be two times the community wise total vacancies for the post notified by RRB. PET will be qualifying in nature. Certain physical tests will be conducted for both men and women separately.

For men: they should lift and carry 35kg of weight for 100 meters in 2 minutes without leaving the weight down in a single chance. Also, they should run a distance of 1000 meters in 4 minutes 15 seconds in a single chance.

For women: They should lift and carry 20kg of weight for a distance of 100 meters in 2 minutes in a single chance without leaving the weight down. Also, they must run a distance of 1000 meters in 5 minutes 40 seconds in a single chance.

PwD candidates should not appear for PET. But they have to clear the medical examination as prescribed for them by RRB.

Document Verification: Based on the performance of the candidates in PET, the selected candidates will be called for the document verification process. The candidates must submit all the documents as mentioned in the RRB notification.  The candidates will have to pass a medical examination that will be conducted by RRB to check their physical fitness. If two or more candidates secure same marks, then their merit position will be determined by considering their age’s i.e. elder ones will be given priority.

The exam will be held from 17th September 2018 to 17th December 2018. Each and every candidate who is willing to apply for this exam should be aware of the eligibility criteria given by RRB. The age limit to apply for the Group D exam is 18 years to 31 years. The candidates should have completed 10th standard from a recognized university or ITI from any institution recognized by SCVT/NCVT.
