After every stage of examination, UPSC declares the result in the form a pdf containing roll numbers of candidates qualifying for the next stage. While all successfully registered eligible candidates will receive admit card for the Preliminary Exam, the selection criteria for the Mains and Personality-test varies as given below:

Mains Exam Selection Criteria

  • Candidate has to have qualified the UPSC Prelim to be selected for the Mains Stage
  • Cutoff for Mains Exam is decided on the basis of marks secured by candidates in Paper-I (GS) of Preliminary exaM.
  • Paper-II (CSAT) of the Preliminary is exam is qualifying in nature with minimum 33% marks required for qualification.
  • All candidates whose roll umbers appear in the Prelim Result list are eligible to appear for Mains exam.
  • The official website informs that candidates amounting to 12 times the number of vacancies announced will be shortlisted for the interview process.

Personality Test Selection Criteria

  • Candidates need to score minimum qualifying marks (cutoff as decided by UPSC) in the  Mains Examination to qualify for Interview (Personality Test/Interview).
  • The English Paper and Regional Language paper of Mains Examination will not be counted towards score computation. Hence the 4 GS papers, Essay and 2 optional papers together will be scored out of 1750 marks.

  • UPSC will declare a final merit list by combining Mains Examination and Interview marks. Hence the total is marked out 2025 marks (1750 for Mains and 275 for Interview).
  • All candidates with roll numbers appearing in the final merit list released by the Commission will be allotted a service based on their rank in the exam in corroboration with their Service preference as submitted during registration.
