UPSC CSE Registration

Applications for UPSC Civil Services are accepted in online mode only and aspirants can apply via the official website – upsc.gov.in. UPSC CSE 2018 Application Forms for the Preliminary Exam were made available in February 2018. The application form filling window was available till March 2018.

To ensure avoid last minute delays and get your exam city preference, candidates are advised to apply soon after the CSE Application Forms are released. This date will be intimated in advance via the UPSC Civil Services Exam Notification. The basic Application Fee for UPSC CSE is INR 200/- however several categories are exempt from this fee.

The UPSC Civil Services Exam is conducted in 3 stages- Prelim, Mains and Interview. The Prelim Exam is open to all eligible candidates (please view eligibility criteria here). The Mains Exam can only be attempted by those candidates who qualify Preliminary Exam. Registration for Prelim and Mains is separate, i.e., all candidates can register themselves for the Prelim Exam but only those candidates that score minimum qualifying marks in Prelim can fill in the Detailed Application Form (DAF) for Mains exam.

Step-by-Step Registration Process

Step 1 Registration Part I

  • First, candidate must visit the official website of UPSC – upsc.gov.in and click on the link to apply for UPSC Civil Services Examination
  • This is part I of the Registration process and requires basic information. Here you will need to fill in details like Name, Gender, Category, Nationality and other personal details.
  • On clicking the “Submit” button, you will be redirected to the Application Fee Payments Page

Step 2 Payment of Application Fee

Female candidates (All) Exempted from fee payment
SC / ST / PH candidates
  • SC/ST/Women candidates are exempt from paying this fee. General/OBC male candidates must pay fee of INR 200/-
  • Choose the payment method between online (Netbaking/by Debit or Credit card) or offline mode (Challan)
  • If you are selecting Offline mode, you will have to download the pay-in-slip (Challan), fill in required details and submit the Bank Copy to the nearest SBI branch during working hours of the bank along with due amount.
  • For Online mode please keep ready the payment mode – debit/credit card for CVV/pin OR for net banking ID/Password
  • Once you fill the details, click on option “Pay Now” to complete the payment.
  • This will redirect you to Part II of Registration Process.

Note: This step is not applicable for candidates who are exempted from paying the fee.

Step 3 Registration Part II

  • This form is more detailed in nature and required details about educational qualifications till last degree acquired.
  • You will have to give your preference for which service you wish to be recruited to (This will ultimately depend merit, hence candidate is required to give 3 preferences in order).
  • You will also be asked to enter communication details. Ensure that you enter the same correctly as UPSC intimates candidates of details via text message and email.
  • Verify the details, correct any errors and submit the form.

Step 4 Uploading the Images

  • Click on the ‘Upload Image’ link.
  • Save the image to a particular folder and ensure it is in correct format. Browse and select the image for it to be uploaded to the form.
  • You must check if the image is uploaded correctly and is clear.
  • If the image upload fails, follow instructions in error message or re-upload the image/new image.
  • Click on “I Agree” icon to verify the declaration and submit.
  • With this, you have completed the UPSC CSE Application Process. You may print out Application Form as submitted by you. However, UPSC does not require you to carry application form to exam venue – only Admit Card in necessary, which will be released 3 weeks prior to exam.
