The IBSAT syllabus is broadly similar to CAT, but with no General Knowledge/General Awareness section. It is divided into four areas:

1. Verbal Ability

Vocabulary, synonyms and antonyms, grammar and idioms, sentence completion, contextual and English usage, error spotting, phrase replacement, one-word substitution, analogies, para jumbles, and punctuation.

2. Reading Comprehension

Passages of moderate difficulty on themes such as current affairs, business and economics, social issues, and literature — testing both factual understanding and inferential reasoning.

3. Quantitative Aptitude

Arithmetic, algebra and geometry, number system, percentages, profit and loss, time-speed-distance, permutations and combinations, probability, LCM and HCF, quadratic and linear equations, and coordinate geometry. Arithmetic tends to dominate this section.

4. Data Adequacy & Data Interpretation

Bar graphs, column graphs, pie charts, tables, Venn diagrams, data interpretation, and data sufficiency questions — this section can be time-consuming, so accuracy and speed both matter.

IBS Hyderabad, Bangalore, Dehradun, and Jaipur offer the 2-year MBA programme, while the remaining five campuses offer the equivalent PGPM (Post Graduate Programme in Management).

IBSAT 2026 Preparation Tips

Because IBSAT is moderate in difficulty and has no negative marking, a focused, strategic approach can go a long way:

• Prioritise English: With language sections making up nearly 57% of the paper, invest heavily in vocabulary, grammar, and reading comprehension practice.
• Attempt everything: Since there’s no negative marking, never leave a question blank — make educated guesses on tough ones.
• Take mock tests: Aim for at least 25–30 full-length mocks. Free IBSAT mock tests are usually available on the official website in the run-up to the exam.
• Analyse your performance: After each mock, review errors and identify weak areas to fine-tune your strategy.
• Master time management: Practise moving efficiently across sections; DI questions in particular can eat up time.
• Follow a phased plan: A 6-month plan works well — three months to cover the syllabus, two months for intensive mock practice, and a final month for revision.
