Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT) was established in 1997. The first campus of the institute was set up in Tadong. In 1999, this campus was shifted to the permanent as well as present campus.
This institute is the result of a private and public partnership of the Manipal Group and the Government of Sikkim. From its beginning, the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) method was being practised in the institute.

SMIT Sikkim Admission Process
Applicants of different courses are taken into consideration for the admission process depending on their qualifying exam score. B.Tech and MTech candidates’ scores in the qualifying exams decide whether the candidates are going to get admission in the course they are seeking for or not.
For this, two entrance exams are considered. SMIT Entrance Exam is for B. Tech course and GATE is for the M. Tech course. Candidates have to get certain marks in SMIT Entrance Test and GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test Engineering) for admission in B. Tech and M. Tech courses, respectively.
These tests are followed by the personal interview round conducted by the Sikkim government. However, the final selection of the candidates is based on the marks scored in the qualifying exams and the personal interview round score.
- For admission in full-time M. Tech course, GATE score is considered.
- For admission in full-time B. Tech course, SMIT Entrance Test score is considered.

SMIT Sikkim Result and Cut-off
SMIT Sikkim’s admissions depend on SMIT Entrance Test and GATE scores. The SMIT cut-off list is announced by the institute once the GATE and SMIT results are out. Candidates have to cross the cut-off score in order to get admitted to a course. B. Tech and M. Tech candidates have to cross the cut-off mark.
For B. Tech candidates, SMIT Entrance Test cut-off score is considered and for M. Tech candidates, GATE cut-off score is considered.
The cut-off list is prepared on the basis of factors like a number of participating candidates, their results in the qualifying exam, difficulty level of the exam and number of seats available in the SMIT Bangalore.
