Scholarship at IIT Madras

IIT Madras encourages its meritorious and financially needy students by offering a variety of scholarships and financial aid. Female and SC/ST students are eligible for special scholarship programs at the institute. Some of the scholarships are provided by the institute’s alumni, while others are provided through the Government of India’s scholarship schemes.

Institute Scholarships: Some of the most popular scholarships offered by the institute are listed in the table below, along with their descriptions.

Institute Free Studentship Family annual income should not exceed INR 4.5 lakhs 67% tuition exemption. Available for only 25% of students admitted. Renewal of scholarship every semester requires a minimum GPA of 5.0. in the previous semester.
SC/ST Scholarship  Family annual income should not exceed INR 4.5 lakhs Free messing and pocket allowance of INR 250 per month, over and above tuition fee exemption. Renewal of scholarship every semester requires a minimum GPA of 5.0. in the previous semester.
Girish Ready Scholarship  2 Scholarships on the basis of highest JEE rank and annual family income not exceeding INR 5 lakhs and 1 Scholarship on the basis of best all-round performance in the previous school years and annual family income not exceeding INR 5 lakhs INR 25,000 every year. Renewal of scholarship every semester requires a minimum GPA of 8.0. in the previous semester.
Indian Women’s Association at Bonn Scholarship On the basis of the highest JEE rank and annual family income not exceeding INR 5 lakhs INR 1,250 to one B.Tech student only for 12 months.
Sri V Ranga Raju Memorial scholarship On the basis of Merit cum Means and annual family income not exceeding INR 5 lakhs INR 500 to one B.Tech student only for 4 years. Renewal of scholarship every semester requires a minimum GPA of 5.0. in the previous semester.
Kanchi Kamakoti Jagadguru Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Endowment Award On the basis of Merit cum Means and annual family income not exceeding INR 5.5 lakhs One-time payment of INR 2500.
M Sankaraiah and M Saradha (Mithigiri) Scholarship On the basis of highest CGPA at the end of 4th semester of students of the B.Tech / Dual Degree Electrical Engineering INR 20,000 (one time)
Dr K Vasanth Rau Scholarship On the basis of the highest JEE rank and annual family income not exceeding INR 5.5 lakhs. Renewal is based on a GPA of 6.5 and above INR 25,000 per annum to one student

Inlaks Scholarship Academic performance (CGPA of 9.0 & above) at the end of 2nd-semester Selection by a Committee (One scholarship) INR 65,00 per annum to the B.Tech students
OPJEMS Selection among top 20 based on JEE rank. Higher semesters based on CGPA among top 20. INR 80,000 per annum
ST Engineering Scholarship Offered to two B.Tech students of 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year amongst top 10% students of AE, CS, ME. INR 80,000 per annum
TODAI Scholarship Offered to two B.Tech students in any year of the program among AE, EE, ME  2 lakhs Japanese Yen per year
Nissan Scholarship Offered to two B.Tech / Dual Degree student  INR 70,000 per annum to the students of 3rd and 4th year
Inspire Scholarship (Department of Science and Technology, Government of India) All Students admitted to Dual Degree (B.S & M.S) – for 5 years INR 80,000 per annum per student
