IIT Kharagpur Admission Criteria 2024 for B.Tech

Key Points:

Exam for Admission

Candidates must take a written examination that consists of multiple choice questions (MCQs) divided into two sections:

IIT Kharagpur offers a two-year M.Arch (Master’s in Architecture) program at the postgraduate level/ candidates must appear for the GATE entrance examination to be admitted to the program.

Selection Criteria for IIT Kharagpur Integrated M.Sc

Candidates will be shortlisted based on the institute’s JEE Main and JEE Advanced cutoffs. The final choice will be made through JoSAA counseling. Seats are assigned based on JEE Advanced rank, seat availability, category, and other factors.

IIT Kharagpur Admission Criteria 2024 for Ph.D. & PDF

At the Doctoral level, the IITKGP offers admission to Post-Doctoral Fellowship (PDF) and Ph.D. programs in a variety of disciplines. Regular with Institute Assistantship, Ph.D. with Fellowship (INSPIRE/ UGC NET), Sponsored Ph.D., and Ph.D. through Sponsored Research Project are the four types of Ph.D. programs available. IIT KGP offers 21 specialisations for the Ph.D. and PDF programs respectively.

IIT Kharagpur Ph.D. & PDF Eligibility 

  • Candidates must have at least 60% or a CGPA of 6.5 on a 10-point scale in their qualifying degree in Engineering/Science/Commerce/Management/Law and/or equivalent OR
  • Candidates must have a qualifying degree in Humanities/Social Science/MBBS with a minimum of 55% or a CGPA of 6.0 on a 10-point scale.

The following degrees are required for admission to the Ph.D. program:

  • M.Tech. / M.S. / M.Sc (Engg.,)
  • M. Arch., MCP (Master of City Planning), MRP (Master of Regional Planning)
  • M. Phil. (2 years program) (2 years program)
  • MBA / PG Diploma in Management for two years (after completing B.Tech/M.Sc/MA/M.Com)
  • LLM after at least 5 years of integrated LLB after 10+2 examination OR 3 years LLB after 10+2+3 examination
  • A degree equivalent to any of the preceding.

OR

  • B.Tech./BE/B.Sc (Engg.)
  • M.Sc. / MA / M. Phil. B.Arch (1-year program)
  • MBA / PG Diploma in Management for two years (after completing a BA/BSc/BCom)
  • MBBS with a one-year internship required
  • 5 years of integrated LLB degree following the 10+2 examination OR 3 years of LLB degree following the 10+2+3 examination
  • A degree equivalent to any of the preceding.

Criteria for IIT Kharagpur Ph.D. and PDF Selection

Admission is granted based on a Department-Based Test, Academic Performance, Work Experience, and an Interview. Candidates with GATE/ NET/ CSIR/ UGC/ SLET qualifications are also eligible for admission. While compiling the final merit list, the admissions committee will also consider candidates’ academic records and interview performance.

Ph.D. applications can be submitted online for a fee of INR 1000 (INR 500 for SC/ST/PWDs).
