IIT Delhi Admission Process

IIT Delhi holds the second position following IIT Madras in the IIT System of our country. Most candidates dream of getting into IIT Delhi. The institute provides a large variety of engineering courses. It has courses on the undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral level. Selection of candidates is based on entrance examinations and merit.

IIT Delhi Admission Highlights

  • For undergraduate B.Tech course, candidate selection is based on the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and the marks scored in higher secondary examinations. 
  • For postgraduate M.Tech course, candidates are selected on the basis of marks scored in their BE/ B.Tech or M.Sc degree and GATE examination scores and a round of written test, interview and group discussion.
  • For PG Diploma in Civil Engineering, candidates are selected on the basis of merit.
  • For an MS degree, admission is offered on the basis of GATE score and written test and interview conducted by IITD.
  • For the PhD programme,  ME/ M.Tech or MD degree holders can be admitted directly and MBBS/ M.Sc/ MBA or MA degree holders should qualify in GATE examinations with more than 300 marks or CSIR NET/ UGC NET/ ICAR/ ICMR or DST-INSPIRE scholarship.

IIT Delhi Admission Schedule: 

UG Course

IIT Delhi offers quality Bachelor of Technology courses in undergraduate level. To get admission the candidate must pass 10+2 with minimum 75% (65% for SC/ST) marks or in the top 20 percentile in the respective 10+2 board examination. The final selection is done on the basis of JEE Main and JEE Advanced followed by Counselling.

PG Course

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi conducts postgraduate Master of Technology course and also a postgraduate diploma course in civil engineering. To get admission in the postgraduate diploma course the candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in the relevant branch, the final selection will be merit-based.

To secure a seat in M.Tech programme the candidate must be a BE or B.Tech or M.Sc in the relevant discipline. The candidates, who have a score 75% in B.E or B.Tech or M.Sc. and GATE score is equal or greater than 300 will get direct admission and who have at least 60% need to appear for a written test or interview.

Doctoral Course

IIT Delhi also provides M.S and PhD programmes. To get admission in M.S the candidates need BE/ B.Tech or M.Sc degree in the relevant discipline. Admission will be offered on the basis of score in GATE and/ or written test conducted by IITD followed by an interview. 70% weightage will be given to the GATE score at the time of admission.

For PhD the candidate needs M.E/ M.Tech or MD degree with at least 60% (55% for SC/ST/PH) marks in aggregate or 60% (55% for SC/ST/PH) marks in MBBS/ M.Sc/ MBA/ MA or minimum 70% marks in B.E/ B.Tech. the final selection is done on the basis of the score of the entrance examination.

BE/ B.Tech degree holders need to qualify for GATE/ ICAR/ CSIR NET/ UGC NET or DST-INSPIRE scholarship
