Annamalai is a state university, which was established in the year 1929 on 1st January by one of the famous entrepreneurs of that time Sattapa Ramanatha Muttaiya Annamalai Chettiar. Annamalai University address is located in Annamalai Nagar, Chidambaram (Tamilnadu, India).

The university was initially formed by three colleges – Sri Minakshi College, Sri Minakshi Tamil College and Sri Minakshi Sanskrit College and later handed over to the Government of Tamil Nadu as per the Annamalai University Act 1928.

Annamalai University is spread across 1000 acres in the Chidambaram town. In 2006, the Annamalai University first opened its  Study centre in Toronto, Canada. This university is ascribed as one of the highest enrollment in India.

Annamalai University is credited as the well-equipped computers. There is also separate teaching rooms, study centres and computer training centres in the Annamalai University.  Annamalai University has a service laboratory, which is enriched with updated systems.

This laboratory came into existence during the time of 1978. The lab offers types of equipment such as SEM ( SCANNING ELECTRONIC MICROSCOPE), Flame Photometer, Atomic Force Microscope, Hot Air Oven, Muffle Furnace, Conductivity Meter, Magnetic Stripper, Laser scanning Confocal Microscope etc.

This university has a well-structured unique Heritage Building. This unique heritage library was constructed by internationally well-known architects. Annamalai University’s library has an “H” shaped structure with a controlled entrance lobby including a spacious reading and reference hall.

The Annamalai University library remains open on all Sunday from 8 am to 8 pm. Annamalai University offers its students with a couple of a number of refreshments.

There is a vast Tennis court and Volleyball court on this college campus. There are also a basketball court and an indoor stadium in the university, which is provided for the students.
