UPSC IES/ISS Eligibility Criteria 2019 - Academic Qualification and Age Limit

UPSC IES/ISS 2019 Eligibility Criteria

The UPSC has certain eligibility criteria to be followed by the candidates. The eligibility criteria that are to be followed by the candidates are as follow:

  • Nationality:

  1. A citizen of India, or
  2. A subject of Nepal, or
  3. A subject of Bhutan, or
  4. A Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1962 January 1, with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
  5. A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Burma, Pakistan, Sri Lanka or East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, The United Republic of Tanzania, Ethiopia, or from Vietnam with the point of permanently settling in India.

Provided that a candidate belonging to the categories of 2, 3, 4, and 5 above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.

  • Educational qualification:

For Indian Economic Service:

The candidate must have obtained a PG degree in Economics/Applied Economics/Business Economics/Econometrics from a recognized university or a foreign university approved by the central government from time to time.

For Indian Statistical Service:

The candidates must obtain a bachelors’ degree with Statistics/Mathematical Statistics/Applied Statistics as one of the subjects or else should hold a Master’s degree in Statistics/Mathematical Statistics/Applied Statistics from a recognized university or a foreign university approved by the central government from time to time.

  • Age Limit:

The candidates ought to have attained the age of 21 years and ought to not have attained the age of 30 years as on August 1, 2019.

  • The Number of attempts:

There are no restrictions in the number of attempts in the IES/ISS exam. The candidates can apply any number of times between the age limit of 21 to 30 years.
