SSC Stenographer Recruitment 2019 Syllabus

Candidates should be aware of the detailed syllabus of the SSC Stenographer to ace the examination. There are three major sections of the question paper which are general awareness, general Intelligence/reasoning and English Language. It is necessary that the candidates should be proficient in all the three sections for the paper 1 of staff selection commission Stenographer examination. The skill set is part 2 of the paper where the candidate would need to write the dictated words. The requirements for the skill set which will be conducted both on computer and on paper are as follows:-

  • 80 words per minute is required for the post of stenographer grade D
  • 100 words per minute is the requirement for the post of Stenographer Grade C

The detailed syllabus of the each section is as follows:-

Section 1 – General Awareness:

Questions would be both verbal & non-verbal type. It may include topics like Names of popular books and authors, Geography, Current affairs, History, Economic Scenario, Scientific Research issues and general policies, arithmetical reasoning and figural classification, analogies, space conception, spatial alignment, analysis, problem solving, decision, similarities and differences, decision making, discrimination, observation, visual memory, relationship concepts, arithmetic number series.

Section 2 – General Intelligence and Reasoning

The contents for the reasoning and General Intelligence section includes concepts & topics and other topics like Pattern-folding & unfolding, Number Series, Figural pattern &completion, Semantic series, Symbolic operations &Analogy, Symbolic and number analogy, Venn diagrams.

Section 3 – English Language

The section-3 which English language contains topics mostly related to English – Active and passive voice, Homonyms, Synonyms and antonyms, Direct and Indirect Conversion, Fill in the blanks, Comprehension passage, Spellings, Miss-spelt words detection, Cloze passage.

Stenography is the ability of creation of shorthand notes and subsequent transcription of them. Therefore, Stenography Skill Test contains  basically of two stages which are :-

Stage 1 – Shorthand – this is a method of rapid writing by means of abbreviations and symbols which is especially useful in dictation. This is extremely useful for the job of SSC Stenographer as the main job description involves the dictation from the officers.

Stage 2 – Transcription and Typewriting – This means to convert the abbreviation and symbols into the text and type based on a recording or notes.

These two are critical as the primary obligations of SSC Stenographer incorporates Taking Dictations and Typing, Handling Telephone Calls, Handling Visitors, Maintaining Engagements, Preparing Tour Programs and Travel Arrangements, E-Tracking of Files and Vital Papers, Handling Parliamentary Work, and E-Monitoring Management System of Significant References.
