RRB ALP/Technician Exam 2018

Railway Recruitment Board conducts the RRB ALP/Technician exam for selection of candidates to the posts of Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) and Technician. As per CEN 01/2018, there are 27795 vacancies of Assistant Loco Pilot and 36576 vacancies for posts of Technicians.

The exam is conducted in 3-stages for ALP and 2-stages for Technician. The Second Stage CBT is set to take place from 12th – 14th December. 

RRB ALP Result 2018 for the First Stage (CBT) has been released by Railway Recruitment Board on 3rd November 2018. The merit list of shortlisted candidates has been published by region-wise RRBs based on merit and post preference. The list contains actual marks scored by candidate and normalised score along with post-preference. The shortlisted candidates can download call letter for the RRB ALP Second Stage CBT for RRB Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) and Technicians (Group C) four days before respective exam date.

Exam Pattern

I. First Stage CBT (Common for ALP/Technician)

The score of first stage exam shall be used only for short listing of candidates for second stage exam as per their merit. The Questions will be of objective type with multiple choices.

A] Exam Pattern for First Stage CBT – (Common for ALP/Technician)

II. Second Stage CBT

Short listing of Candidates for the Second Stage CBT exam shall be based on the normalised marks obtained by them in the First Stage CBT Exam.

Total number of candidates to be shortlisted for second stage shall be 15 times the community wise total vacancy of ALP and Technician Posts notified against the RRB as per their merit in First Stage CBT.

Total Duration: 2 hours and 30 Minutes (for Part A and Part B together)

The Second Stage CBT shall have two parts viz Part A and Part B as detailed below.

The marks scored in Part A alone shall be used for short listing of candidates for further stages of recruitment process subject to the condition that the candidate is securing qualifying mark in Part B.

Part-B is qualifying in nature and shall have questions from the trade syllabus prescribed by Director General of Employment & Training (DGET). The trade syllabus can be obtained from the DGET website, click here to view the DGET Trade Syllabus Page.

Candidates with ITI/Trade Apprenticeship qualification will be required to appear in the section having questions from the relevant trade. Candidates holding Degree, Diploma and HSC (10+2) having eligibility for the posts of ALP have to select relevant trade from the list of trades listed against their engineering discipline/HSC (10+2).

The relevant trades for various engineering discipline/HSC (10+2) for appearing in the qualifying test is as below:

III. Computer Based Aptitude Test (Only for candidates who have opted for ALP)

Qualifying Marks: The candidate needs to secure a minimum score of 42 marks in each of the test batteries to qualify. This is applicable to all candidates and no relaxation is permissible.

Rate of Shortlisting/Criteria:

  • Candidates equal to 8 times number of ALP vacancies for each of the communities i.e. UR, OBC-NCL, SC and ST (including ExSM) shall be short listed for Computer Based AT (based on their performance in Part A of the Second Stage CBT subject to their qualifying the Part B of Second Stage CBT) from among the candidates who have opted for the post of ALP.
  • Such shortlisted candidates should produce the Vision Certificate in the prescribed format as per Annexure – VI in original during Computer Based AT, failing which they will not be permitted to appear in the Computer Based AT.

Computer Based Aptitude Test Details

  • Candidates will have to qualify in each of the test battery of Computer Based AT for considering them for the post of ALP.
  • The Computer Based Aptitude Test shall have questions and answer options only in English and Hindi.
  • There shall be no negative marking in Computer Based AT.
  • The ALP merit list will be drawn only from amongst the candidates qualifying in the Aptitude Test, with 70% weightage for the marks obtained in the Part A of Second Stage CBT and 30% weightage for the marks obtained in Computer Based AT.

Syllabus for RRB ALP/Technician Exam

Syllabus for First Stage CBT – (Common for ALP/Technician)

The exam will consist of 4 sections – Mathematics, General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Science and General Awareness. You can find section-wise syllabus below:

a. Mathematics
Number system, BODMAS, Decimals, Fractions, LCM, HCF, Ratio and Proportion, Percentages, Mensuration, Time and Work; Time and Distance, Simple and Compound Interest, Profit and Loss, Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry, Elementary Statistics, Square Root, Age Calculations, Calendar & Clock, Pipes & Cistern etc.

b. General Intelligence and Reasoning
Analogies, Alphabetical and Number Series, Coding and Decoding, Mathematical operations, Relationships, Syllogism, Jumbling, Venn Diagram, Data Interpretation and Sufficiency, Conclusions and Decision Making, Similarities and Differences, Analytical reasoning, Classification, Directions, Statement – Arguments and Assumptions etc.

c. General Science
The syllabus under this shall cover Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences of 10th standard level.

d. General awareness on Current Affairs
Science & Technology, Sports, Culture, Personalities, Economics, Politics and other subjects of importance.

Syllabus for Second Stage CBT

Part A

Part A of the Second Stage CBT will have 4 sections – Mathematics, General Intelligence and Reasoning, Basic Science and Engineering and General Awareness.

a. Mathematics

The broad topics that are covered under this shall be Engineering Drawing (Projections, Views, Drawing Instruments, Lines, Geometric figures, Symbolic Representation), Units, Measurements, Mass Weight and Density, Work Power and Energy, Speed and Velocity, Heat and Temperature, Basic Electricity, Levers and Simple Machines, Occupational Safety and Health, Environment Education, IT Literacy etc.

d. General Awareness on Current Affairs 
Science & Technology, Sports, Culture, Personalities, Economics, Politics and any other subjects of importance.

Part-B

Admit Card

The RRB ALP Second Stage CBT Admit Card will be available for download in December, 4 days before respective exam date. RRB has confirmed that the RRB ALP Stage 2 CBT will be held from December 12 to 14, 2018 onwards. The RRB admit card will be released online only. It can be downloaded from RRB websites by logging in.

As per Notice issued by RRB, all the shortlisted candidates will be intimated through official website of RRBs / SMS / Email to download their RRB ALP Exam City Intimation about 10 days before 2nd Stage CBT.

To log in, candidate must enter Registration ID and Date of Birth on RRB zone-wise website. If candidate does not have hard copy of Admit Card on RRB ALP Exam Day, he will not be permitted to appear for exam. Please ensure that admit card is downloaded and printed out before exam date.

How to Download RRB ALP Stage 2 CBT Admit Card

  1. First, candidate must open the official website of zonal RRB. List of all zone-wise RRBs  links is given below.
  2. Candidate must enter Registration ID and DoB to log-in.
  3. Click on Admit Card link to access the same. RRB makes Admit Card available 4 days before exam date. Thus, if you have exam on 12th of December you can download Admit Card on 8th Dec.
  4. Download, save and take 2 printouts of the admit card for the exam date.
  5. You may additionally be required to carry passport photograph and photo ID proof to exam venue.

RRB ALP Result

Result for RRB ALP is released stage wise for First Stage CBT, Second Stage CBT and Computer Based Aptitude Test (only for ALP). Candidates qualifying one stage will be shortlisted for next stage. Merit list will also contain candidate score and post preference.

To check stage result for RRB ALP, candidate must visit the Zone-wise official RRB website. There are 21 RRB zones which declare result in the form of PDF containing candidate roll numbers. RRB for every zone will also release cutoff marks for qualification and Master Question Paper copy with Final Answer Key (available till 11/12/2018).

As per Notice issued by RRB, all the shortlisted candidates will be intimated through official website of RRBs / SMS / Email to download their Exam City Intimation about 10 days before 2nd Stage CBT.

How to check RRB ALP Result

Currently RRBs have released respective results for First Stage CBT on 2nd of November 2018. The Notice has also intimated that Second Stage  CBT will be conducted from 12th to 14th of December 2018.

  • Candidates can check their scores by logging in via the Official RRB websites using Registration ID and Date of Birth.
  • Cut-off marks for all notified posts can be seen by clicking on the link provided on the official websites of RRBs.
  • Once you log in, you will also see option for viewing shift-wise Question Paper with RRB ALP final answer key.
