CUSAT CAT 2019 Exam Information

Cochin University of Science and Technology is a famous University in Cochin which offers various under-graduate and post-graduate courses. The University has got approval from various organisations such as the University Grants Commission, National Council for Technical Education and National Assessment and Accreditation Council of India. A number of colleges in Kerala are affiliated to this University.

The major advantage of joining the university and its affiliated college is the job opportunities they get once they have completed the course. Also, the infrastructure facilities are excellent that the students would get the opportunity for their overall development. Students will get admission to the courses offered by the University and its affiliated colleges by clearing CUSAT exams.

CUSAT Exam is a University level exam which is conducted only once in a year. The exam is so famous that there are students give this exam year after year to get the course they wanted to pursue.  The number of students appearing for this exam is increasing year by year. Therefore, the competition is so high. It is important for candidates to take the exam seriously and prepare well with a proper strategy.

CUSAT provides an opportunity even to the international students to appear in this exam. This facility is not given by many other competitive exams conducted in the country. The exam centre is also available in one of the foreign countries. Presence of international students in the University has a number of advantages. Mingling with international students would help the local students to get adequate exposure to various cultures and it would also aid in developing their interpersonal skills.

The exam is conducted in an online mode for 3 hours. Students who are preparing well can crack the exam in the first attempt itself.

CUSAT CAT 2019 Exam Date

Students are suggested to note the important dates related to the exam in an accurate manner. For helping the students planning their exam preparation in a better way, the University governing the exams will release the tentative dates. These dates may get changed in the future.

If you are missing a deadline, you have to wait for another one year to give the exam thereby missing a golden chance.  To allay the fears of candidates in this regard, the University has come up with an option. If you are not filling your application form within the prescribed time limit, you can submit the form in the next week but with the payment of late fees

CUSAT CAT 2019 Eligibility Criteria

Before writing an exam, it is essential for the candidates to know all the eligibility criteria. All this information will be given in the notification. Precise details regarding the eligibility criteria are mentioned in the table given below

Nationality
  • For the regular B.Tech or B.E courses, candidates should be of Indian Origin.
  • Candidates from Kerala need to submit their domicile certificate to apply within the state quota.
  • Candidates from foreign countries can opt for other courses. For this, they have to submit the NRI certificates.
  • For applying under NRI quota, the person should be a citizen of India, Person of Indian Origin or Overseas citizen of India.
Age Limit
  • Candidates should be less than 19 years of age to apply for the undergraduate courses.
  • Candidates should be less than 22 years of age for applying for postgraduate courses.
  • Candidates should be less than 28 years of years for M.Phil. and Ph.D.
  • Those who are opting for the doctorate, the age limit for the candidates should be 45 years of age.
Number of attempts
  • Candidates can write as many attempts as possible provided they should strictly adhere with the age limit.
Educational background
  • For undergraduate courses, applicants should have completed 10th and 12th with a minimum of 50% in aggregate. Different courses have minimum marks requirements in different subjects. Refer the official notification for that particular year for more details.
  • For postgraduate courses, students have to submit the GATE score if they want to claim relaxation for the criteria of minimum percentage.
  • For B.Tech in Naval Architecture, candidates should have scored a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate and a minimum of 50% in Maths.
  • For M.Phil., candidates should have at least 3 years of teaching experience. There is a reservation of 50% available for the University and the college teachers. 5% relation in the minimum marks is given for candidates belonging to the SC/ST category.
  • For Ph.D. courses, the candidate should have obtained a minimum of 55% in aggregate in post-graduation from a recognised university and this is 45% for candidates belonging to the SC/St category.
  • For post-doctoral fellowship, candidates should have completed a doctoral degree and there should be two-year experience in the research field.
Reservation criteria
  • Reservation rules are strictly followed for admission. Reservation is available for people belonging to Kerala who is from socially and educationally backward classes, Schedules classes, and Scheduled Tribes.
  • Reservation of 3% is available for the physically challenged category. To become eligible for this reservation, candidates should have at least 40% disability.
  • Candidates who got admission through sports quota will have one seat per course as reservation benefit.
  • In some specific programs, there will be a reservation of 3 seats for the children of CUSAT staff.
  • Reservation is provided for the Jewish Community.
  • Statistical Engineers who are appearing for CUSAT exam will have a reservation of two seats.
  • In every program, one seat is reserved for children of Ex-servicemen.
  • Special reservation is given to people from Lakshadweep based on the list provided by the administration of Lakshadweep.
  • People belonging to Navy will have a reservation of 15 seats.
  • There is a reservation of 2 seats for people from Jammu and Kashmir under supernumerary quota.
  • Different courses will have different reservation based on the specific requirement of that particular year.
  • Reservation is also provided based on the experience
  • For MBA courses, 50% of the seats are allotted for those who have work experience of more than 3 years.
  • For MCA courses, 50% of the seats are allotted for those who have at least two years of teaching experience.

CUSAT CAT 2019 Registration

Candidates can submit their application form only through the online mode. Filling of application form for CUSAT 2019 will start in the first week of February. Candidates should fill the application form with serious attention. The details entered in an application form cannot be changed once they are filled. The application process consists of the following steps:

Step 1: Registration

  • Visit the official website of CUSAT and select the link given for the registration process.
  • In the page that appears, fill the details such as Name of the Candidate, Date of Birth, Mobile Number, Category of the candidate and Email ID. It is also important to answer a secret question.
  • Once you have filled this, select the submit button.
  • You will be getting a User Name and Password and these two details will be used for filling your application form.

Step 2: Application form filling

  • Using the User ID and password, sign in to the application form.
  • Some of the details you have to fill in the application form include Name of the candidate, Name and occupation of the father, Name and occupation of the mother, Date of Birth, Gender, the nationality of the candidate, address and state of candidate etc.
  • Enter the category and educational background of the candidate
  • Choose the course which you want to apply for. You are also to select the subsidiary subjects.
  • Select the exam centre. You should select two exam centres. If the first exam centre is filled, you can take the test in the second exam centre.
  • Next step would be the upload of scanned copies of Photograph and signature. Candidates should upload the copies as per the specifications prescribed in the official website.

CUSAT CAT 2019 Exam Pattern

You can write this exam only through online mode. The exam pattern and the syllabus are not same for all the courses.  The questions asked in this exam are of multiple choice type.

The questions are available only in English. There will be a reduction of one mark for every wrong answer. If you are leaving a question unanswered, no marks will be deducted. So, candidates have to be careful while answering the questions.

The test will be conducted for three hours. Candidates should score a minimum of 10 marks to get listed in the respective rank list. This minimum marks criterion is not applicable to the students belonging to SC/ST Category. The number of questions asked in the exam depends on the courses that students opt for. CUSAT CAT 2019 Admit Card

Admit card for the coming exam will be released on the third week of April. The link for downloading the admit card will be available on the official website of the exam. Students should download the admit card once it is released so that they can avoid unnecessary rush the day before the exam. It should be noted that the admit card will not be sent through the post.

It is important to carry the Admit card to the examination hall. Without it, you cannot appear in the exam. Go through all the instructions given in the admit card and stick with those guidelines to avoid stress.

Exam Centres

Candidates can take the test on any of the centres based on their choice. It is important to select the centre which is near to their hometown. In most circumstances, they will be allotted the centre of their choice. Sometimes, they will be allotted the centre which they gave as a second preference if the capacity of the first preference is less. CUSAT CAT 2019 Result

The University will release the result within one month after the exam gets completed. The result for all the candidates will be published on the official website. This is the one way where you can check the results. Your scorecard will not be sent to you by post. Answer keys will be available on the website and candidates can cross-verify if they have any doubts about the result.

Candidates should check the results by following the below mentioned steps:

  • Visit the official website.
  • Select the link which leads to the result.
  • In the window that appears, give the course you opted for and the roll number.
  • Select the submit button.
  • You can see the scorecard on your computer screen. You can find the following details on your scorecard: Name of the candidate, Name of the course the candidate has opted for, Total marks scored by the candidates and your rank based on the scores of all the candidates.
  • Download it and take two to three printouts of the scorecard. You have to produce the rank card on the day of your counselling.

CUSAT CAT Cutoff

Candidates are allotted the seats based on the cut-offs. In this exam, the cut-offs are different for each category. The candidates who are from general category will have higher cut-offs. So, it is important for them to work hard to secure a seat from the college they prefer. People from the reserved category will have comparatively lower cut-offs. Apart from the reservation, the other deciding factors are the availability of seats, difficulty level of the exam and the total number of candidates who have appeared in the exam. The details regarding the cut-off will be released on the official website too.

It should be noted that no candidate will be allotted seat in any college if he does not have the required cut-off. You can get to know the trends based on the previous year cut-offs. This would help you in deciding the colleges.
