IIT Roorkee Admission Procedure

The institute conducts courses in undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate level. For taking admission into the engineering courses, the candidates need to appear for certain entrance examinations. For B.Tech undergraduate students, JEE examinations, held by one of the IITs, is considered as the basis for selections. This year IIT Roorkee has been the host institute for the JEE examinations. GATE scores are considered for the postgraduate students. The candidates need to score above the minimum cutoff. The cutoff for every year is different. The institute offers the students with a course in PhD level where the students can gain admission through the college entrance test.

IIT Roorkee Admission Highlights

  • For admission in B.Tech courses and integrated dual degree courses, the students need to appear for the JEE examinations to get selected. The JoSAA Counselling allots the seats to the students according to their scores. 
  • For admission in M.tech courses, the candidates are required to score above the minimum cutoff marks for GATE examinations. The final selection of the candidate is followed by an interview.
  • For PhD courses, the candidate has to appear for the Departmental Entrance Test conducted by the institute. After the written test, candidates are tested on the basis of an interview.

IIT Roorkee Admission Procedure

UG Course

IIT Roorkee offers undergraduate Bachelor of Technology and integrated B.Tech+M.Tech course. To secure a seat in those courses the candidate must have obtained a minimum of 75% in the 12th examination or is in the top 20 percentile of students in their 12th examination conducted by their respective boards of examination. The candidates must have Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of the Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/ Technical Vocational subject. Based on the JEE Followed by JoSAA counselling, the final selection will be done

Course Eligibility Selection Procedure
B.Tech Candidate must have obtained a minimum of 75% in the 12th examination or is in the top 20 percentile of students in their 12th examination conducted by their respective board of examination with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of the Chemistry / Biotechnology / Biology /  Technical Vocational subject Candidates are selected through Joint Entrance examinations (JEE) and JOSaa Counselling

Candidates are selected through Joint Entrance examinations (JEE) and JOSaa Counselling 

PG Course

IIT Roorkee conducts postgraduate Master of Technology course. To secure a seat in this programme the willing candidates must have a B.E or B.Tech degree in relevant branch. The students will get admission on the basis of GATE score followed by an interview conducted by the institute.

Doctoral Course

To get admission in IIT Roorkee PhD programme, the applicants must have relevant ME/ M.Tech or equivalent degree with 60% (55% for SC/ST/PhD) marks in aggregate. The final list will be prepared on the basis of the Departmental Entrance Test score and academic record.
