IIT Kanpur Admission Process

IIT Kanpur selects its students on the basis of their ranks on the JEE-Main and JEE-Advanced exams. On the postgraduate level, the students are selected based upon their GATE score and previous academic performance. Foreign students are also eligible for applying. 

  • On UG level, the students are shortlisted based on their JEE-Main ranking or JEE-Advanced ranking.
  • On PG level, the selection is done based upon the GATE score of the candidate along with their previous academic performance.
  • On the basis of a valid GATE score and previous academic performance, the final selection will be done on the doctoral level.

IIT Kanpur Admission Process

On UG Level

To get admission in undergraduate Bachelor of Technology course offered by IIT Kanpur the candidates must have passed 10+2 level exam from any recognized board along with at least 75% marks (65% for SC/ST) or rank among the top 20 Percentile in their respective board. The final selection is done on the basis of JEE rank followed by coundselling.

On PG Level

To secure a seat in postgraduate Master of Technology programme the aspirants need to have a Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science (4-year program) Master’s degree in science with a minimum of 55% marks or 5.5 CPI (on a 10 point scale) and a valid GATE score. On the basis of GATE score followed by written test and interview the final selection will be done.

Course Specialization Eligibility Selection Procedure
M.Tech Aerospace Engineering Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science (4-year program) Master’s degree in science with a minimum of 55% marks or 5.5 CPI (on a 10 point scale) and a valid GATE score.

The GATE score is not required for the candidates with a B.Tech degree (4-year program) from an IIT with at least 6.5 overall CPI and at least 8.0 CPI in the last two years of the course. 

Candidates are selected based upon their GATE score which is followed by Written Test and Personal Interview

On Doctoral Level

IIT Kanpur conducts PhD programme. To secure a seat the applicants must have Master’s degree in Engineering along with a minimum of 55% marks or 5.5 CPI (on a 10 point scale) or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science (4-year program) with a minimum of 75% marks or 7.5 CPI (on a 10 point scale) and a valid GATE score. The GATE score is not required for B.Tech students who are from Centrally Funded Technical Institutes or CFTIs or Master’s degree in Science or an allied area with a minimum of 65% marks or 6.5 CPI (on a 10 point scale), first division in Bachelor’s degree, and JRF/95 percentile or higher GATE score. The final selection is done on the basis of GATE score followed by written test and interview.
