IISc Bangalore MSc Admission 2026
IISc Bangalore has recently introduced the MSc program starting from the academic year 2023-24. The program offers a total of 100 seats, with 50 seats allocated for Life Science and 50 for Chemical Sciences. Admission to the program is based on a written test and interview conducted by IISc Bangalore.
IISc Bangalore MSc Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility criteria for MSc in Life Science and MSc in Chemical Sciences differ. Below are the admission requirements for the MSc program at IISc Bangalore:
MSc in Life Science
- Candidates must have achieved at least a first class or its equivalent in a Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification in:
- Physical Sciences
- Chemical Sciences

IISc Bangalore MSc Selection Criteria
The selection process for the MSc program at IISc Bangalore entails consideration of entrance exam scores and participation in an interview round. Applicants aiming for MSc in Life Science should successfully clear JAM 2026 in Biotechnology (BT)/ Chemistry (CY)/ Mathematics (MA)/ Physics (PH) or possess a valid GATE score in Biotechnology (BT), Biomedical Engineering (BM), Electronics Communication Engineering (EC), Ecology (EY), Mathematics (MA), Physics (PH), Life Sciences (XL).
The ultimate admission decision will be determined by a combination of the written test and interview scores. IISc Bangalore allocates 50% weightage to the written test and 50% weightage to the interview. Candidates are selected for the test/interview based on their JAM 2026 scores.
Applicants interested in MSc in Chemical Sciences must meet the qualifying criteria in JAM 2026 Chemistry (CY). There is no interview component for the MSc in CY at IISc Bangalore. The entire weightage is assigned to the JAM CY score.

How to Apply for IISc Bangalore?
Candidates can complete and submit applications for all programs offered by IISc Bangalore online. The application fee can be paid using various online payment methods such as net banking, debit card, or Visa/Master credit card.
The following prerequisites are necessary for filling out the application form:
- Certificates/Mark sheets: 10th Std, 12th Std, UG Degree, and/or PG Degree.
- Details (Registration/Roll Numbers, Paper Code/Score, etc.) of JEE Main/GATE/CEED.
- Payment Option: Payment can be made through Net banking, Visa Card/Master Card, Debit/Credit Cards.
- A scanned image of your passport-size photograph (to be uploaded).
- A scanned image of your signature (to be uploaded).
Steps to fill the application form
Step 1: Registration
- Candidates are required to visit the IISc registration portal and register using an email address and password to initiate the online application process. A new user account must be created for this purpose. Please note that the email address used for registration cannot be modified later.
- After submitting the registration form, candidates will receive an email containing a verification link. Clicking on this link will verify the email address and complete the registration process.
Step 2: Fill out the Application Form
- Subsequently, candidates should log in to the IISc registration portal to complete the application form. The application form is organised into four sections, each accessible within a separate tab.
- Candidates must provide all the required details, particularly those marked as mandatory, within each tab. After entering the necessary information, click on the “Save & Proceed” button to advance to the next tab.

Once confident in the accuracy of the application form, candidates should click the “CONFIRM TO SUBMIT” button. Subsequently, a PDF version of the completed application form will be generated, which candidates should download and save for future reference.
