Students seeking admission to Undergraduate level B.Tech courses are shortlisted based on the marks scored in the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination or WBJEE exam. Thus, the Burdwan University cut off is declared after West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination scores are released for the year.

The university considers Merit-based entrance exam scores to take admission in the rest of the undergraduate level courses. Once the Merit-based entrance exam scores are released then the University declares selectional cut off marks. However, candidates must meet the eligibility criteria to take admission in their preferred courses. 

In order to take admission to the Postgraduate level M.Tech courses, candidates are selected based on the marks scored in the GATE examination. No sooner the GATE scores are released than the university declares its selectional cut off marks. Besides, the University considers MAT scores to take admission in the Postgraduate level MBA courses. Burdwan University conducts admission through Written Test scores for the rest of the Postgraduate level courses.

The candidates who score above the selectional cut off marks will be called for a face to face interview round. Students are admitted to the PhD and M.Phil courses based on their performance in the entrance test followed by an interview round.
