GCET 2024 Exam Information

GCET is a state-level entrance examination administered by the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Goa, for various professional degree programs. Admission is granted based on the scores obtained in this entrance exam. Successful candidates can secure admission in Goa’s state government or aided engineering colleges. Additionally, NEET qualified candidates are eligible for admission to MBBS, BDS, BHMS (Homeopathy), BAMS (Ayurveda), Allied Health Science (Paramedical), and B.Sc. in nursing courses.

GCET 2024 Eligibility Criteria

Applicants who have completed or are in the process of completing their HSSC (Std. 12th Science) or equivalent examination before the commencement of the academic session are eligible to sit for GCET 2024. Those applying solely for the Pharmacy Course are not required to take the Mathematics section.

Courses Eligibility Requirements
Engineering Courses Candidates must have pass 10 + 2 or equivalent examination from a recognized board.
He/she should have Physics, Mathematics, and English as a mandatory subject and any one of following the additional subject in Chemistry /  Biotechnology / Biology / Computer Science. Candidates must have scored at least 45% marks aggregate for the general group and 40% for SC/ST/PH candidates.
B. Arch. Candidates must have passed 10 + 2 or equivalent examinations with Mathematics subject.
They should have scored a minimum of 50% marks aggregate for the general group and 45% for SC / ST / OBC candidates.
Candidates should also qualify for the NATA exam.
BHMS and AHS Candidates must have passed 10 + 2 or equivalent examinations with Physics, Chemistry & Biology subject.
They must have secured at least 50% marks aggregate for the general group and 40% for SC / ST / PH candidates.
B. Sc. Nursing Candidates must have passed 10 + 2 or equivalent examinations with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English subject.
He/she should have scored at least 45% marks aggregate for the general group and 40% marks for SC / ST / OBC candidates.
B. Pharma. Candidates must have passed 10 + 2 or equivalent examinations with Physics, Chemistry, and English as a compulsory subject.
Apart from the above subject, candidates should have an additional subject in Mathematics, Biotechnology, Biology, and Computer Science.

GCET 2024 Registration

GCET 2024 has been replaced by JEE Main for admissions. Engineering and Pharmacy admissions through GCET will now be based on JEE Main and NEET scores respectively. For more details, please refer to the official websites of GCET and JEE Main.

The JEE Main January session 1 took place from January 24 to February 1, and session 2 occurred from April 1 to 15. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced the NEET 2024 exam date along with the JEE Main exam 2024. According to the exam calendar, the NEET exam, the largest medical entrance exam, will be conducted on May 5, 2024.

How to Apply for GCET 2024?

The GCET application process is conducted offline, and candidates need to ensure they meet the eligibility criteria before applying. Below are the step-by-step instructions for filling and submitting the GCET 2024 application form:

  • Download the GCET 2024 Application Form (Form A) from the provided link and print it on A4 size paper of good quality.
  • Fill in all the required details, including personal information and category details.
  • Affix one recent color photograph on the application form, ensuring it was taken within the last three months from the admission date.
  • Enclose two additional photographs with the application form.
  • Provide your complete postal address, including the postal code, and ensure you include a telephone/contact number with the area code in brackets.
  • Check the subject codes (as mentioned in the table below) and encircle them accordingly.
  • Specify your center code and name, selecting your preferred GCET center for 2024.
  • Enter details related to the Demand Draft (DD), including the DD number, Bank Name, and Date of issue.
  • Candidates and their parents must sign the designated places on the form.

GCET 2024 Application Fee:

The application fee is INR 2000 for candidates of all categories.

Candidates can pay the application fee using credit card, debit card, or net banking.

Documents Required to Fill the GCET Application Form 2024:

  • Three passport-size photographs taken within the last three months prior to filling the application form.
  • Copy of SSCE Passing Certificate.
  • Copy of Class XII Passing Certificate.
  • Demand Draft (DD) for the Application Fees.

Note: Candidates are required to submit the GCET 2024 application form in person and collect the GCET 2024 admit card in person as well.

The GCET 2023 Examination will be conducted in the medium of English.

MODE

The GCET 2023 exam will be conducted in pen and paper mode at different exam centers.

NUMBER OF QUESTIONS

There will be 75 questions asked from each and every subject. Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, and English are the 5 main subjects with 75 questions each.

QUESTION TYPE

There will be multiple choice questions or MCQ. Each question will carry different options of the answer.

TOTAL DURATION

candidates will get 2 hours or 120 minutes to complete the GCET 2023 question paper.

MARKING SCHEME

Every correct answer will carry 1 mark each and there will not be any negative marking for a wrong answer.

GCET 2023 Syllabus

The GCET 2023 syllabus is extensive and includes a large number of topics and concepts derived from previous research. The following is a detailed outline of the GCET 2023 entrance exam syllabus.

PHYSICS

Carbon resistors, carbon resistors’ color code for; series and parallel combinations of resistors; temperature dependence of resistance. Electric charges and their conservation. Coulomb’s law-force between two point charges, Oersted’s experiment. Biot – Savart law and its application to current, forces between multiple charges; superposition principle and continuous charge distribution, Electric field, electric field due to a point charge. The internal resistance of a cell, potential difference, and emf of a cell, a combination of cells in series and in parallel, Concept of the magnetic field. Carrying circular loop. Ampere’s law, applications of ampere’s law to an infinitely long straight wire, toroidal and straight solenoids

Mirror formula. Refraction of light, total internal reflection, and its applications, optical fibers, Faraday’s law/induced emf/current; Electromagnetic induction; Lenz’s Law, Self/mutual inductance, Eddy currents, Alternating currents, Reflection of the light and also refraction on the spherical surfaces, spherical mirrors, lenses, lens- maker’s formula, thin lens formula, Magnification etc.

CHEMISTRY

Packing in solids, Redox reactions; conductance in electrolytic solutions, specific and molar conductivity variations of conductivity with concentration, Tyndall effect, Brownian movement, electrophoresis, coagulation; emulsions – types of emulsion, Haloalkanes. Classification of the solids depending on the different binding forces like ionic/molecular/ covalent/metallic solids, Nomenclature, nature of C-X bond, physical and chemical properties, crystalline solids and amorphous solids (elementary idea).

Unit cell in 2D/3D lattices, calculation of density of any cell, Kohlrausch’s Law, electrolysis, properties of colloids, mechanism of substitution reactions, Optical rotation, Aldehydes and Ketones: Nomenclature, nature of carbonyl group, methods of preparation, physical and chemical properties, and mechanism of nucleophilic addition etc.

MATHEMATICS

Binary operations, Inverse Trigonometric Functions Definition, range, domain, principal value branches. Graphs of inverse trigonometric functions, Relations and Functions Types of relations: Reflexive, symmetric, transitive and equivalence relations. One to one and onto functions, composite functions.

The change of matrix, matrices that are symmetric and skew-symmetric. the inverse of a function. Vectors and scalars, magnitude and direction of a vector, multiplication and scalar multiplication of matrices, simple properties of addition, Matrices Concept, notation, order, equality, types of matrices, zero matrices, Continuity and Differentiability, a derivative of composite functions, chain rule, etc.
