About College

Founded under the rule of Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV, the University Grants Commission (U.G.C.) approved Mysore University as a public state university situated in Mysore, Karnataka, India. With 180 affiliated colleges and 37 postgraduate departments, the University of Mysore was the first institute to be built outside the British administration in India. Apart from Mysore University, Mysore Open University is also located in Mysore, which was founded in the year 1996.

Mysore University ranking is 54 among engineering institutes in India under the NIRF rankings of 2019. Undergraduate courses

Mysore University courses are provided with a degree in various disciplines. The Undergraduate courses include B.A, B.A. LL.B, B.Arch, B.Com, B.Com LL.B, B.Des, B.Ed, B.Sc, BBA, BCA and BFA.

The 3-year long Bachelor of Arts full-time course consists of specializations like History, Economics, Kannada, Archaeology and Museology, Criminology and Forensic Science, Psychology, Sociology, Graphics and Animation, Public Administration, Journalism and Communication, Sharana Sahitya, English, Political Science, Geography, Anthropology, Sanskrit, Hindi, Ancient History, Co-operation, Folklore, Philosophy, Family Resource Management, Human Development, Linguistics etc.

PhD courses

The University offers a Doctor of Philosophy degree in specializations like Applied Mechanics and Hydraulics, Chemical Engineering etc over a period of three years for a fee of INR 3 lakhs.

Mysore University also conducts some courses in the distance education modes. The fee structure of the courses is different from the regular ones. Admission Process

All the applicants are admitted to the university courses based on the marks scored in the qualifying exam. Candidates need to score above a specified mark in these exams to get admitted to a particular class or discipline. The qualifying exams include NATA(National Aptitude Test in Architecture), PGEE(Postgraduate Entrance Exam), GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test Engineering), NET(National Eligibility Test) etc.

Shortlisted candidates need to sit for a personal interview and group discussion round. The final selection of candidates is made based on the qualifying exam score plus the performance in the personal interview or group discussion round.

Results and Cut-off

Mysore University colleges announce the cut-off list of its various courses and disciplines once the results of the corresponding entrance tests are out. University of Mysore results and cut-off list is prepared based on several factors like the number of candidates appearing for the qualifying exam, the highest marks obtained in the examination, the level of difficulty of the test and the number of vacant seats available in a particular department of the University.

Campus Facilities 

The Central Library of Mysore University holds a rich collection of 7,00,000 books, 20000 Theses and Dissertations, 15,000 reports and Govt. publications and has a subscription to over 225 Indian Journals, 24 popular magazines, 16 foreign journals and 20 newspapers. Mysore University hostels are provided to both boys and girls. The boys' hostels have a total of 2371 beds while the girls' hostels have 922.

The basic amenities offered to the residents include water purifiers, laundry services, TV, recreation room, common room, mess, security, and surveillance system. The hostel facilities vary according to colleges. The University campus also has Badminton Courts, a Basketball Court, Cricket Ground, Football Ground, Swimming Pool, Tennis Court, Hockey Ground, Volleyball Court, Kho Kho Court, Kabaddi Court, Wrestling Hall, Gymnastics, Table Tennis, Weight Lifting and Standard Cinder Track.
