Madras University Campus Facilities

Madras University is a public state university that was established back in 1857 in Chennai (formerly known as Madras) capital of Tamil Nadu. It is one of the oldest universities in South India and currently, it has six campuses spread in places like Chepauk, Guindy, Marina and Taramani.

The campuses of the university have a well-established structure with spacious classrooms, an auditorium for lectures, canteen and library. All the campuses of the university represent a well-built IT infrastructure to provide all the modern utilities to its students.

Madras University has four major libraries located at Chepauk Campus, Guindy Campus, Marina Campus and Taramani Campus. The Madras University Library is also known as MUL, which was established in the year 1900 in Guindy and in 1907 in Chepauk and Marina.

The libraries, being very old has a very good collection of study materials and the environment is also well-maintained to provide complete study comfort to the candidates. Candidates can get books on research, history, books related to their courses, novels, arts, Geology, Science, Writing of the great scholars, books on technology studies, languages and religions, books on Indian law and jurisdictions and more. 

Madras University offers hostel facility for both boys and girls. It provides good accommodation for the students maintaining hygienic and good study environment. It also has a health centre, which offers first aid facilities to the candidates.

The campus provides free internet facility with the help of Wi-Fi to the staff and candidates. The campus has canteens where students and staff of the university eat and spend their leisure time. Madras University Union was founded in the year 1932.

The facilities include Sports Track, Pavilion, Athletic Track, Basket Ball Court, Volley Ball Court, Tennis Court and Badminton Court. This place is one of the favourites among the students since the different game zones provide great refreshment to the candidates.

Students can spend their leisure time playing these outdoor games and can also practice for inter-university sports or competition. The candidates of the university take parts in more than 30 South zones and All India Inter-University sports on an annual basis and maximum students who have good athletic skills take part in the competition.
