Admissions to IIT Ropar in 2024

IIT Ropar’s BTech admissions rely on the JEE Advanced score for the year 2024, followed by the JoSAA Counselling process. The JEE Main 2024 has scheduled Session 1 for January 24 and February 1, 2024, while Session 2 is set for April 1 and April 15, 2024.

Regarding IIT Ropar’s MTech program, the deadline for GATE applications has been extended until October 20, with the option of a late submission. For those interested in MSc admissions at IIT Ropar, the registration deadline for IIT JAM 2024 has also been extended until October 20, 2023. As for MBA admissions, CAT 2023 admit cards will be available starting October 25, with the CAT 2023 exam scheduled for November 26. Furthermore, IIT Ropar is currently accepting applications for its PhD programs, and the deadline for submission is October 25.

Admission to over 30 courses at IIT Ropar is facilitated through national-level entrance exams. The most sought-after program at IIT Ropar is the B.Tech, and candidates aiming for admission to this flagship program must successfully pass the JEE Advanced examination and proceed to register for JoSAA counseling to secure their seat. The annual tuition fees for the IIT Ropar BTech program stand at INR 2.24 Lakhs. The IIT Ropar Cutoff for the highly popular BTech in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) program in the JEE Advanced exam for 2023 ranges between 1350-1589 for the General Category.

Beyond the flagship B.Tech program, IIT Ropar offers various other courses, including M.Tech, M.Sc, and integrated B.Tech+M.Tech programs, among others. Admission to these programs is contingent on the scores obtained in entrance exams such as IIT JAM and GATE, with subsequent counseling. Additionally, IIT Ropar may also conduct personal interviews for specific courses as part of the final selection process. Aspiring candidates should register separately for the respective entrance exams. Following the declaration of entrance exam results, candidates can complete application forms for admission through the official IIT Ropar website.

IIT Ropar extends its Ph.D. program across two distinct streams, namely Engineering and Science. Admission to the Ph.D. course at IIT Ropar is determined through a comprehensive selection process, which involves a Department-Based Test, evaluation of Academic Performance, consideration of Work Experience, and concluding with an Interview. Additionally, candidates who have qualified in exams such as GATE, NET, CSIR, UGC, or SLET are also eligible for Ph.D. admission.

IIT Ropar B.Tech Admission 2024

Eligibility Criteria for IIT Ropar B.Tech

For IIT Ropar B.Tech admission, at least one of the following conditions must be met:

  • Candidates must have obtained at least a 75% aggregate in their Class XII (or equivalent) Board examination. (65% for SC, ST, and PwD candidates) Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics are required subjects in the Board exam.

OR

Candidates must have scored in the top 20 percentile in their respective Class XII (or equivalent) board examinations in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

For both B.Tech and B.Tech+M.Tech admissions, candidates must be JEE Advanced qualified.

Criteria for IIT Ropar B.Tech Selection

  • IIT Ropar admission to B.Tech is based on +2 Board exams and JEE Advanced scores, as well as a merit list prepared by the institute.
  • Students must also register for JoSAA, which allocates seats to qualified candidates.

Note: It should be noted that female candidates in any category are eligible for a 10% percentile relaxation.

How to Apply for IIT Ropar B.Tech?

For admission to B.Tech and B.Tech+M.Tech programmes, students must apply online for JEE Advanced. JoSAA offers admission to B.Tech and B.Tech+M.Tech programmes (Joint Seat Allocation Authority). Students who have taken the JEE Advanced must remember the following points when registering:

  • Candidates who have passed the JEE Advanced can apply to any of the participating institutions.
  • Applicants may select as many options as they wish while registering in decreasing order.
  • Students must remember to lock their choices in order to be considered for admission based on the options provided. No changes can be made once the file has been locked.
  • There are seven rounds of seat allocation in total, in which all participating institutions participate.
  • Candidates must pay the seat acceptance fee and have their documents verified at the reporting centre once they have been assigned to their desired branch.
  • If you are unable to obtain the desired option, you have three options:
  • Continue with the option that has been assigned to you.
  •  Accept the option, but you prefer a better field within the same college.
  •  Float-accept the assigned seat if you want a better field as well as a college.
  • Finally, an acceptance fee must be paid in order to accept the seat on a provisional basis.

Documents Required

For B.Tech registrations at IIT Ropar, the following documents would be required:

  • Class X and XII certificate and mark sheet (Original and one attested copy) 
  • Proof of date of birth (if not mentioned in the Class X certificate) 
  • Caste certificate wherever applicable. 
  • JEE Branch and Institute allotment letter 
  • JEE Advance Admit Card 
  • 5 Passport size coloured photographs 
  • Copy of Aadhar Card of student taking admission.
  • Receipt of the fees payment made to JEE at the time of seat confirmation and fees paid to IIT Ropar. 
  • Income Certificate / Income Affidavit of parents duly attested by First Class Magistrate/ S.D.O./B.D.O./ TEHSILDAR or any other Revenue officer of the district of his/her residence.

M.Tech Eligibility Criteria at IIT Ropar

  • Students applying for M.Tech admission must have a BE/ B.Tech Degree in a relevant discipline or AMIE with at least 60% aggregate (55 percent for SC/ST/ PwDs).
  • Candidates who are GATE qualified will also be considered for admission to the M.Tech programme.

M.Tech Selection Criteria at IIT Ropar

  • Admission decisions are based on GATE and bachelor’s degree scores.
  • Candidates are evaluated 70% based on their GATE score and 30% based on their merit.
  • Only the most qualified candidates are invited to PI for final shortlisting.

How to Apply for M.Tech at IIT Ropar

Candidates must first sign up for the Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP). After registering, take careful note of the COAP Registration number. It will be needed when completing the IIT Ropar application form. Document scanned images must be submitted with the application form. M.Sc Admission to IIT Ropar in 2024

IIT Ropar offers a two-year master’s degree programme in three specialisations: physics, chemistry, and mathematics. The M.Sc programme at the institute has a total enrollment of 71 students in each specialisation. Admission to the programme is based on the results of the IIT JAM entrance examination, which is followed by JAM counselling.

Eligibility Criteria for M.Sc at IIT Ropar

A candidate must meet the following requirements to be admitted to the M.Sc programme at IIT Ropar:

  • 10+2 with mathematics as a required subject
  • Bachelor’s degree in the relevant discipline from a recognised university/institute with a minimum aggregate of 55% (for General/OBC-NCL category)/at least 50% (for SC/ST and PwD category).
  • A valid IIT JAM score.

M.Sc Selection Criteria at IIT Ropar

The candidates will be chosen based on their performance in the IIT JAM examination. Candidates who pass the entrance exam must then register for JAM counselling. Admissions will be conducted in three rounds, with selected candidates required to accept their seats by paying the admission fee.

How do you apply?

  • Only through the JAM Online Application Processing System can candidates apply for the entrance exam (JOAPS).
  • Candidates must register by providing their name, an e-mail address, a mobile phone number, and a password.
  • The candidate’s email and mobile number will be sent an enrolment id. The candidate must use these credentials for all exam-related information.
  • Candidates can log in and complete their examination form, as well as upload photos, signatures, and other documents.
  • Pay your application fees using electronic payment methods. The application fee for female (all categories), SC/ST/PWD students is INR 750 (for one test paper) and INR 1050 (for two test papers) (two test papers). The application fee for other students is INR 1500 (one test paper) and INR 2100 (two test papers) (two test papers).

Admissions to the IIT Ropar Ph.D. programme in 2024

IIT Ropar offers Ph.D. admission in five modes: regular, direct, external, and part-time. To be eligible for IIT Ropar Ph.D admission, candidates must pass GATE, CSIR NET, UGC NET, or DBT.

Candidates are called for interviews after being shortlisted based on their performance in the entrance exam.
