Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi (shortened IIT (BHU) Varanasi or just IIT BHU) is a private university situated in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India. Established in 1919 as the Banaras Engineering College, it turned into the Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University in 1968. It was assigned an Indian Institute of Technology in 2012. IIT (BHU) Varanasi has 14 divisions and three between disciplinary schools. IIT (BHU) Varanasi offers four-year instructional projects for the level of Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) and five-year programs for Integrated Dual Degree (IDD). The IDD program offers joined B.Tech. furthermore, M.Tech. degrees.

Admission

  • Admission to the B.Tech courses is through JEE Main + JEE (Advanced).
  • For postgraduate courses, candidates need to go through the GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering).
  • To apply for Ph.D., a candidate must pass Master’s degree in relevant discipline.
  • Admission in a PhD program is made by GATE or GPAT/ NET-LS / CSIR/UGC NET JRF/ DBT-JRF/ ICMR JRF/ DST-INSPIRE fellowship.

Placements

The Training & Placement Office, IIT (BHU) Varanasi facilitates the process of placement of students passing out from the Institute besides collaborating with leading organizations and institutes in setting up of internship and training program of students. The office liaises with various industrial establishments, corporate houses etc which conduct campus interviews and select graduate and post-graduate students from all disciplines. The Training & Placement Office provides the infra-structural facilities to conduct group discussions, tests and interviews besides catering to other logistics. The Office interacts with many industries in the country, of which nearly 200 companies visit the campus for holding campus interviews. The industries which approach the institute come under the purview of: Core Engineering industries IT & IT enabled services Manufacturing Industries Consultancy Firms Finance Companies Management Organisations R & D laboratories.

IIT BHU recent placement processes are very successful.

The highest package was Rs. 1.39 crores per annum and was offered by Microsoft.

The second highest package was offered by Tower Research capital and they offered Rs 40 lakhs package to 5 students.
Average Package offered was Rs 16 lakhs per annum.

Infrastructure and Facilities

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) is situated in the spiritual capital of India Varanasi. The campus of the institute has a scenic atmosphere, which makes academics favourable for the learners. The campus of the institute is well kit out with amenities like canteen, bank and other stuffs. Institute has separate department for every domain. All the department of the institute is fully fit out with laboratories, gymkhana library and computer labs. The aim of the infrastructure amenities is to make learning conducive for the learners.


Hostel: Large Hostel with capacity of 250 students with central garden, mess and a canteen and other facilities.


Classroom:


Institute has spacious classrooms, which are well equipped with modern facilities, such as audio systems, Overhead Projects, LCD projectors, DVD players and television sets. The seating contours are specially designed for comfort, which is necessary for concentrated study. They are designed to provide students with complete comfort for the intense hours of classrooms teaching and interaction.


Laboratory:


All the laboratories of the institute are well kit out with latest apparatus. The laboratories of the institute assist students and faculty in their research and assists student in their practical. The computer lab of the institute is fully fit out with latest systems, scanner, printer etc.


Library:


The Indian Institute of Technology library system consists of a main library, and five departmental libraries which collectively support teaching, research and extension programs of the institute. The library, besides having a huge collection of books on engineering, science and technology offers library services through its various divisions.


Extra – Curricular:


IIT-BHU enjoy a very vibrant campus life, which besides regular academics is full of extra curricular activities, thus networking them in a social atmosphere. These activities are mainly coordinated by the IT-GYMKHANA, which ensures round the year activities and conducts three major national level festivals namely, TECHNEX (Technical Festival), KASHI-YATRA (Cultural Festival) and SPARDHA (Sports Festival), besides these major festivals many minor festivals are also organized by the gymkhana to ensure the complete personality development of all the students.

IIT (BHU) offers Merit-cum-Means scholarships to 25% undergraduate students. Besides, there are several endowment scholarships offered by the Institute. All the students (non-sponsored) admitted to M.Tech./ M.Pharm. programs are provided financial Assistance equivalent to the Junior Research Fellowships.

National Fellowship and Scholarship for Higher Education of ST Students – Scholarship (Formally Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship for ST Students):


The Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship (RGNF) scheme for Scheduled Tribes has been renamed as National Fellowship for Higher Education of ST Students and is formulated and funded by Ministry of Tribal Affairs. The scheme is open to candidates who belong to Scheduled Tribe and are pursuing higher studies such as regular and full time M.Phil and Ph.D degree in Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences and Engineering & Technology. There are 750 slots for Scheduled Tribe candidates every year for all the subjects.
