IIM Shillong Scholarships

IIM Shillong Scholarships provide ongoing support to students who demonstrate exceptional academic merit and limited financial resources. The institute offers Need-Based Financial Assistance to deserving students, ensuring they have access to necessary financial support.

IIM Shillong Scholarships

IIM Shillong offers the Need-Based Financial Assistance Scheme as part of its scholarship program. This scheme is designed to support economically disadvantaged students who excel academically but have limited financial resources. The scholarships are limited and vary based on the number of students with low family income. The amount of assistance provided is determined by factors such as the student’s annual gross family income, creditworthiness, and assets.

Scholarships offered by the Government of India 

Apart from the Need Based Financial Assistance, the Government of India provides scholarships specifically for participants belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and People with Disabilities (PWD) categories. These scholarships include:

  1. National Fellowship & Scholarship for Higher Education of Scheduled Tribe Students (Central Sector Scheme)
  2. Merit Cum Means Scholarship For Professional and Technical Courses CS
  3. Central Sector Scheme for Scholarships for College and Universities Students

National Fellowship & Scholarship for Higher Education of Scheduled Tribe Students (Central Sector Scheme)

The National Fellowship & Scholarship for Higher Education of Scheduled Tribe Students is a Central Sector Scheme that offers scholarships to ST category students who wish to pursue higher degree courses such as MPhil and Ph.D. To be eligible for the National Fellowship Programmes, students must have successfully completed their Post-graduation/Master’s degree.

The selection of students for these scholarships is based on merit. Interested students can apply for the scholarships during the specified time period through the website https://fellowship.tribal.gov.in.

The total number of seats available for the National Fellowship Programmes is 750. However, in cases where the number of applicants exceeds the available slots, the selection will be based on the marks obtained in the post-graduation examination.

If there is a shortage of eligible ST category students, the unclaimed fellowships from the previous year will be carried forward to the next academic year.

Income Criteria:

Students eligible for the National Fellowship Programmes do not have any specific income criteria.

Age Limit:

The maximum age limit for the National Fellowship Programmes is 36 years, calculated as of the first day of July of the relevant year when the scholarship is awarded

*The above rates are equal to UGC rates, which may be revised as and when revised by UGC.

Documents required for the National Fellowship Scholarship programmes are as follows:

  1. Recent coloured passport size photograph
  2. ST/PVTG certificate
  3. 10th/Matriculation/equivalent certificate (to validate date of birth)
  4. Divyangjan certificate (for students with disabilities)
  5. Post-Graduation mark sheet
  6. Admission/Joining certificate of M.Phil/Ph.D/Integrated M.Phil+Ph.D from the University
  7. Offer of admission for students admitted to IITs/AIIMS/IIMs/IISERs.

Merit Cum Means Scholarship For Professional and Technical Courses CS

The Merit Cum Means Scholarship for Professional and Technical Courses CS is designed to offer financial aid specifically to deserving students from minority communities who are both academically meritorious and economically disadvantaged. The purpose of this scholarship is to support their pursuit of professional and technical courses.

Eligibility

  • Students who have obtained more than 50% marks or equivalent grade in their previous final examination and whose parents/guardians have a total annual income from all sources not exceeding INR 2.50 lakhs are eligible for the scholarship.
  • The scholarship is available to students from minority communities, including Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, Jains, and Zoroastrians (Parsis) as defined under Section 2 (c) of the National Commission for Minorities Act, 1992.

Seats Availability:

A total of 60,000 scholarships are targeted to be distributed as both “Fresh” Scholarships and Renewal scholarships.

Central Sector Scheme for Scholarships for College and Universities Students 

The Central Sector Scheme for Scholarships for College and University Students aims to offer financial support to deserving students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds to help cover a portion of their daily expenses during their pursuit of degree programs.

Eligibility

Students with a total parental/family income of up to INR 4.5 lakh per annum are eligible to apply for scholarships under this scheme.

Seat Availability:

A total of 82,000 fresh scholarships are available each year for students pursuing undergraduate/postgraduate degrees in colleges and universities, as well as professional courses.

Eligible students can apply for these scholarships through the NSP Portal, which can be accessed at https://scholarships.gov.in, when the application process is activated.
