Gujarat Maritime University (GMU), established in 2017, was founded by the Gujarat Maritime Board Education Trust under the Gujarat Private Universities Act, 2009. Currently, the university functions from the temporary campus of Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) in Koba, Gandhinagar, until its own permanent campus is developed.
GMU presently offers three postgraduate programs, including an LLM with two specialisations, an Executive Development Programme (EDP) in two specialisations, and an MBA in Maritime Management. Admissions to these programs are conducted online and are based on candidates’ performance in relevant qualifying and entrance examinations.
In March 2021, GMU’s Centre of Executive Education launched its inaugural Executive Development Programme titled “Insights in Maritime, Ports and Logistics – A Global Perspective”, in collaboration with Erasmus UPT and STC International from the Netherlands.
Looking ahead, GMU plans to expand with new academic units such as the School of Maritime Technology and the School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. It also aims to establish dedicated centres including the Centre of Continuing Education, which will offer PhD programs in maritime disciplines, and the Centre of Faculty Development, which will provide short-term courses for educators nationwide.
