I had aspired for higher studies since my graduation days but then postponed to do so because of various reasons. However, as time passed by, I started having a feeling of emptiness in me which motivated me to take up higher studies. With an aim to increase my horizon, diversify my knowledge and to have a change from the regular official work, I decided to go for a post-graduation. I wanted to do MBA because of the diversity in its course content. I appeared for competitive exams like CAT, XAT and GMAT – did not make it to the top B schools but managed to get through the Ex. MBA course of some institutes like XIM, IMT etc. However, the decision to join was yet to be taken. Since I had worked in NTPC for 9 years till then, I wanted further education which would add value to my professional career and at the same time wanted to remain focussed on my work experience in the sector.

Then I came to know about the Business school which was the initiative of my own organisation i.e. NTPC school of Business (NSB). I realised that this is the place which suits me best. One year full time company sponsored study leave has its own charm and makes one feel very privileged. After being selected for this program by NTPC, finally in Sep 2017, I joined NSB.

As our academic sessions started, our horizon increased and we gained knowledge on various areas of Business which we had not gained so far. These learnings made my mind clear of so many queries which had remained unresolved till then. The variety of the subjects taught to us filled in us a great sense of satisfaction.

The course in this institute is unique in the way that we get a mix of the best faculties who are from many top B schools of the country and also a mix of the best Industry experts of the country. The faculties were from various reputed institutes like IIMs, IIT, IIFT, MDI etc. We felt we had a touch of the best B schools of the country in our Institute. Guest lectures by many eminent personalities such as CMDs/Directors of reputed organisations, senior Govt. officials, retired dignitaries etc. were arranged with whom it is difficult/rare to interact in the normal course of profession. The course is rigorous and at par with any of the top B school of the country and is inclined towards the Energy sector. The time we spent in our hostel room was stressful with regular exams, assignments, projects, case studies analysis with deadlines. Inadequate sleep became a routine during that period. However, it was a great learning experience and we realised that this course structure actually gave us the maximum input possible in a period of one year which gives us immense satisfaction.

The accommodation provided by the institute, the food and recreation/sports facilities available at the campus made us feel very good. This period was also memorable as we got associated with our batchmates who were from different projects of NTPC and also from other companies such as BHEL, NLC, Tata Power etc. We built new relations and learnt a lot studying in group and had good time playing games, walking in campus and also celebrating occasions in our own ways.

With the excellence in the quality of education and other facilities available at NSB, we also felt the need for the Branding of the Institute and it was then that the association with IIM-Ahmedabad and the University of Cambridge came as Blessings. It filled in us a great sense of pride. The learnings at the Domestic study tour/industrial visits and the International Immersion program at University of Cambridge and in London was one of its kind which we will cherish throughout our life.

We are immensely thankful to all that this Institute gave us. It makes me and my family feel very proud. I believe we should always be in touch with our learnings and keep on enhancing and enriching the knowledge we gained from this institute and try to apply them in our work life and increase the quality of work in our professional and personal field and thus reap the benefits of this course in the days to come. We should keep on working to build the positive image of this institute and always take great pride in being a part of this wonderful institute – NTPC School of Business!
