The registrations for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering or GATE for the year 2020 is set to begin from the 3rd of September, 2019. Organised and conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, the GATE 2020 will be held in the month of February in 2020.

All interested candidates are supposed to register themselves before 24th September, 2019 on gate.iitd.ac.in. It has been reported that the official declaration was made on the 9th of July, 2019 on the website of IIT Delhi- gate.iitd.ac.in. The GATE exams help enthusiastic candidates get admission into premier institutes like IITs, GFTIs, etc., for M.Sc and M.Tech in the fields of Architecture, Engineering and Technology.

There are as many as 25 subjects for which the GATE examination is conducted and the options are open to all with regards to certain eligibility criteria (based on educational qualification). This year, a new paper of Bio- medical engineering (BM) has made its way into the syllabus.

The official dates for the examination have also been released and it is slated to be held on the 1st, 2nd, 8th and 9th of February, 2020. The admit card will be published on the website on the 3rd of January 2020 with the publication of results scheduled on 16th of March 2020.

Students are advised to check the eligibility requirements thoroughly before applying. The eligibility criteria is based on the undergraduate/ postgraduate educational qualifications of candidates and spans across a vast number of courses in the field of science and technology.

Before commencing the application procedure, candidates will be required to go through all the details including the eligibility criteria and keep certain important documents ready (includes degree certificates, person with disability certificate, caste or category certificate etc.).The application process is totally based online and includes the following main steps-

  1. Registering online on the official website.
  2. Filling up of the application form.
  3. Uploading all required documents after scanning. (Includes copies of photograph, signature of the candidate and the degree certificates of the candidate.)
  4. Payment of application fees.

The payment of fees for application is to be made at the end of the process, online, through debit/credit cards or net banking. No other method of payment shall be valid. The fee for UR or other category candidates is Rs. 1500 while for the SC, ST, PwD and female candidates it is Rs. 750.

The fee will increase by Rs. 500 for all categories if the application is submitted in the extended period, after the deadline of 24th September.

The GATE 2020 examination will be a 100 marks paper divided into 3 parts namely- General Aptitude, Engineering Mathematics and a Subject Specific section. The paper will contain a total of 65 questions including multiple choice type questions and numerical ones. The weightage of marks for the questions will vary from 1 mark to 2 marks each.
