As the NEET online counselling is set to begin from tomorrow, it has put medical aspirants from Telangana in a fix to decide whether to follow the NEET admission schedule or wait for an uncertain Eamcet-III schedule.

After the Eamcet-II paper leak fiasco, the Telangana government decided to re-conduct the common entrance test for filling up of 2,800 MBBS and BDS seats in Telangana on September 11. While detailed schedule is yet to be declared by the state government, it clearly contradicts with the NEET schedule announced by the Central Board of Secondary Education. The admission process for approximately 3,521 seats will begin from August 22 and the classes are scheduled to begin from September 13. It is a tough decision for medical and dental aspirants in Telangana as students who want to appear for Eamcet-III will have to forego the seat that they get from NEET. “Those who have got ranks in NEET have to make the decision now as to whether they want to go with the NEET counselling or try their luck in Eamcet-III as both the schedules differ from each-other,” said Suresh Reddy, professor at a private medical coaching institute in Hyderabad.

The Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad has announced that 56,000 registered candidates for Eamcet-II can download their hall-tickets for Eamcet-III from September 4 onwards. However, detailed admission schedule will be declared after the results. “We will declare the results within a week time from the examination date. However, the detailed schedule of web counselling and seat allotment phases cannot be ascertained now,” said N Yadaiah, convenor of Eamcet-III.

The private colleges are yet to chalk out a plan for admissions through management quota too as the Eamcet-III schedule has already been delayed by a month. “Delayed Eamcet-III process will affect the academic schedule of the entire first year MBBS batch if we postpone admissions for private management quota seats too. We have to consult all colleges and decide on the management quota seats soon,” said Laxmi Narsimha Rao, convenor of Telangana private medical colleges’ association.

According to officials, every year, the admission process concludes by August-end. However, this year, the Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences, which is the parent university for all the medical colleges in Telangana, plans to move Supreme Court to seek additional time to complete the admission process for first year MBBS and BDS candidates.
