Admission to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) is primarily based on performance in various national and state-level entrance exams. VTU Ph.D. Admission 2025

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must have a Master’s degree (such as M.Tech, M.Sc., M.Arch., MCA, or MBA) with at least 60% aggregate marks or a CGPA of 6.75 out of 10 from a recognised university.
A 5% relaxation in qualifying marks (i.e., 55%) is applicable for candidates belonging to reserved categories such as SC, ST, OBC, EWS, and differently-abled categories.

Selection Process

1. Direct Interview (Without Entrance Exam):

Candidates who have qualified UGC-NET (JRF), CSIR-NET (JRF), GATE, or CEED are eligible for direct admission.
They are required to attend a Department-Level Interview, which evaluates their research aptitude and proposed area of study.

2. Entrance Test Route (VTU-ETR):

Candidates who have not qualified any national-level eligibility test must appear for the VTU Eligibility Test for Research (VTU-ETR).
The test consists of two components:
- 50% Research Methodology
- 50% Subject-Specific Questions
A minimum of 50% marks (45% for reserved category) is required to qualify.
Qualified candidates are called for an interview, and the final selection is based on:
- 70% weightage to VTU-ETR score
- 30% weightage to interview performance

Application Process

The Ph.D. application is typically released once a year.
Candidates are required to submit their application form online, along with necessary documents.
Fees:
- Application Fee: ₹30
- Entrance Exam Fee: ₹650 (General category) and ₹500 (SC/ST candidates)

1. Online Registration & Application
