About College

The University of Kerala was started in the name of the University of Travancore. This university is one of the first 16 universities started in Kerala. The university was founded in the year 1866, by Maharaja Swathi Thirunal.

Sri Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma was the first chancellor of the university and the Vice-Chancellor was C. P. Ramaswamy Ayyar, the then Prime Minister of the state.

Kerala University has more than forty departments for different academic disciplines. It has Palayam Campus, Kariavattom campus and more. UG and PG programmes offered in the university include MBA, BBA, MCA, BFA, BHM, LLM, MCJ etc. Under these departments, several courses are taught with some specializations in Gandhian Studies, Nanotechnology etc.

The departments include Department of Biotechnology, Department of Computer Science, Department of Future Studies, Department of Opto Electronics, Department of Russian, Department of Library and Information Science, Department of Law, Department of Music, Department of Islamic Studies etc. There are approximately 94 colleges that are run under the university.

In Asia university rankings, the University of Kerala holds rank between 301st and 350th. The university has a great team of faculty members with years of experience in teaching. Students achieve academic excellence under the guidance of these dedicated and ambitious faculty members. Students are moved from darkness to the light of wisdom through the efforts of faculty members of the university.
