The University Grants Commission (UGC) approved University of Allahabad or Allahabad University is a public central university situated in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, India. Started as the Muir Central College in 1873, the University is the fourth oldest modern university in India after the ones at Calcutta, Bombay and Madras.

Allahabad University held a national rank above 100 among universities in the 2017 rankings of National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF).

Undergraduate courses

Allahabad University offers a variety of courses in several disciplines. The Undergraduate courses include B.A, B.A. LL.B, B.Com, B.E. / B.Tech, B.Ed, B.Lib.I.Sc, B.Sc, BBA, BCA and LL.B. The Bachelor of Arts full-time course provides degrees in English, Geography, Political Science, Education, Psychology, Hindi, Philosophy, Media Studies, Arabic, Defence & Strategic Studies and Ancient History for a fee of INR 2,982 over a period of three years.

The Bachelor of Science course consists of specializations like Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Computer Science, Mathematics, Home Science, Statistics, Anthropology, Botany, Biochemistry and Geology. The duration of the UG courses under Allahabad University is generally three to four years.

The total fee for the BCA programme (3 years) is INR 3632, for the B.P.E programme (3 years) INR 18430, for the B.F.A programme (4 years) INR 15035, for the L.L.B Hons. programme (3 years) INR 3632, for the B.Com programme (3 years) INR 2532 and INR 1.75 lakhs for the B.A + L.L.B degree (5 years). 

Postgraduate courses

The Master of Business Administration degree provides specializations in Marketing, Human Resource Management, Finance, Rural Development, Operations Management, Information Technology and Systems Management over a period of 2 years for a fee of INR 2,200.

The two year-long Master of Science programme provides degrees in Food Technology, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, Botany, Statistics, Applied Geology, Biochemistry, Environmental Science and Materials Science for a fee of INR 2,600.

The duration of the PG courses under Allahabad University is generally two years. Admission Process

All the applicants are admitted to the Allahabad University courses based on the marks scored in their qualifying degree, entrance examination or admission tests (written and practical). Candidates need to score above a specified mark in these exams to get admitted to a particular course or discipline.

The entrance exams include UGAT (Under Graduate Aptitude Test), PGAT (Post Graduate Aptitude Test), CRET (Combined Research Entrance Test), RMAT (Research Management Aptitude Test), LAT (Law Admission Test) etc. Candidates can get  Allahabad University admit card from the official website.

Placements 

The university has a large number of recruiters and companies visiting their campus to participate in placements. Companies like HP, TCS, Sapient, Wipro, Convergys, Infosys, HCL, etc. visit every year to recruit students from the university. The median package for the Computer Application and IT (MCA) streams in the year 2018 were INR 6.80 Lakhs. The university also offers several internship programmes for students belonging to various specializations and departments.

The internships allow the students to get an industrial exposure, acquire knowledge and experience and adapt to the requirements or demands of the industry. It helps them in acquiring necessary skills that will go a long way in assisting them further in their desired line of career.

Results and Cut-off

Allahabad University declares the cut-off list for its several courses and degrees once the results of their respective entrance examinations are calculated. The preparation of the Allahabad University cut off 2019 is governed by various factors like the highest marks obtained in the examination, the number of candidates appearing for the qualifying exam, the level of difficulty of the exam and the number of seats left in a particular department of the university.

The candidates need to obtain a score which is equal to or more than the cut-off mark specified by the university to move forward in the Allahabad University counselling process. For example, L.L.B. Campus Facilities 

Allahabad University campus has a Central Library which was built to provide academic assistance to students, teachers and research scholars of the university. The library has a rich collection of 7,39,344 books and journals, 2,285 e-books, 16,924 PhD theses, 287 current journals and over 24,375 online journals. The university provides hostel or lodging provisions for both boys and girls.

There are nine boys hostels and six girls hostels. Recent improvements in hostel facilities include upgradation of internet Wi-Fi service and installation of water purifiers within the hostels and on the campuses. The university also organises regular sports tournaments and competitions.

It has a Badminton Court, Basketball Court, Cricket Ground, Football Field, Swimming Pool, Tennis Court and a Volleyball court. Other campus facilities include Cafeteria, gym, Auditorium, Medical/Hospital, Laboratories and Guest Rooms.
